Midsommer Flight will expand programming in its 2018 season to include a free TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA in the parks this summer, special staged reading of RICHARD III in spring and the holiday perennial TWELFTH NIGHT. Midsommer Flight, the professional not-for-profit theatre company that has been bringing free Shakespeare to Chicago parks since 2012, will expand its programming from two to three productions for its 2018 season. Midsommer Flight, a professional not-for-profit theatre company that was one of five Finalists for this year's League of Chicago Theatres Emerging Theatre Award, is staging Shakespeare's Twelfth Night for the third consecutive holiday season, complete with its acclaimed musical score. The comedy is being performed in the Show House room at the Lincoln Park Conservatory, 2391 N. Stockton Drive, for three weekends - from November 30 December 17, 2017. The production is part of Mayor Rahm Emanuel's Night Out in the Parks initiative that provides world-class performances in Chicago's neighborhood parks throughout the year. (more...)

Optimist Theatre names their mission to reach artists and audiences across economic, ethnic and experiential landscapes. On opening night for the company's 5th anniversary, the landscape was an amphitheater in Kadish Park overlooking the lights of Milwaukee's sklying twinkling like stars where young and old revive thier souls with a 1967 take on Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. The company's new tribute to anti-establishment flower childfen playing in the guise of Shakspeare's fairies conjure mischeif in the forest along with their King Oberon and QueenTitania. The mayhem continues when two love struck couples muddle the magic between the forest's fairy royalty, yet the audience applauds a happy ending. (more...)
