Court Theatre's Charles Newell Wins SDC Foundation's 2013 Zelda Fichandler Award; Ceremony Set for 11/4

Charles Newell, Artistic Director of Court Theatre in Chicago, Illinois, is the 2013 recipient of The Zelda Fichandler Award, an award to recognize an outstanding director or choreographer who is transforming the regional arts landscape through imaginative, brave work in theatre. The $5,000 award, given by Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation, heralds both accomplishment to date and promise for the future, and lauds deep commitment to a community.

Court Theatre Artistic Director Charles Newell Receives SDC's Zelda Fichandler Award

Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation (SDCF), the not-for-profit foundation of Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC), announces that Artistic Director Charles Newell of Court Theatre is the recipient of the 2013 Zelda Fichandler Award, which recognizes an outstanding director or choreographer who is transforming the regional arts landscape through singular creativity and artistry in theatre. The award heralds accomplishment to date and promise for the future, artistic vision, and deep commitment to a region outside of New York. It carries an unrestricted grant of $5000 to the individual recipient. The award will be presented to Mr. Newell on Monday, November 4, 2013 at a reception at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park.

Ruben Santiago-Hudson & Marlo Hunter Take Home Callaway Awards

The Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation (SDCF) proudly reveals this season's Joe A. Callaway Award winners for Direction and Choreography from more than 200 eligible productions in the 2012 - 2013 New York City theatre season. This year's awards will be presented to Ruben Santiago-Hudson for his direction of The Piano Lesson produced by Signature Theatre and Marlo Hunter for her choreography of Unlock'd produced by Prospect Theater Company. The winners join previous Joe A. Callaway Award Winners including Susan Stroman (1991), Harold Prince (1993), Julie Taymor (1996), Jack O'Brien (2001), Bartlett Sher (2002), Daniel Sullivan (2004), John Tiffany (2012) and Steven Hoggett (2012).

THE LITTLE MERMAID, THE PIANO LESSON and More Set for Olney Theatre Center's Complete 2014 Season

Olney Theatre Center Artistic Director Jason Loewith announced the company would revamp and expand its traditional subscription format while producing an ambitious slate of three seasons and nine productions for the Theatre's 2014 76th Season. Three "mini-seasons" will feature Rolling World Premieres, 20th century American classics, four extraordinary musicals, and an outdoor Shakespeare production beneath the stars.

Evans, announces the final two selections of the 2013-14 season: the Midwest Premiere of Detroit '67, directed by Ron OJ Parson and Jon Jory's acclaimed adaptation of Henry Fielding's Tom Jones, directed by William Brown.

Northlight Theatre's 4000 MILES to Open 9/14

Northlight Theatre, under the direction of Artistic Director BJ Jones and Executive Director Timothy J. Evans, opens its 2013-2014 season with the Chicago Premiere of 4000 Miles, the acclaimed play by Amy Herzog, directed by Northlight Artistic Associate Kimberly Senior. Northlight Theatre Artistic Director BJ Jones and Executive Director Timothy J. Evans announce casting for the first three selections of the 2013-14 season. Northlight will open its season with the 2013 Pulitzer Prize finalist 4000 Miles by Amy Herzog, featuring Emjoy Gavino, Caroline Neff, Josh Salt and Mary Ann Thebus. The Midwest Premiere of Detroit '67 will feature Tyla Abercrumbie,Cassandra Bissell, Kamal Angelo Bolden, Coco Elysses and Kelvin Roston, Jr. Jon Jory's new adaptation of Henry Fielding's classic novel Tom Jones will include Chris Amos, Sam Ashdown, Nora Fiffer, Molly Glynn, Melanie Keller, John Lister, Cristina Panfilio, Eric Parks and Marcus Truschinski. John Mahoney and Penny Slusher will appear in the World Premiere of Chapatti.

LUCE, STOP HITTING YOURSELF, & More Featured in LCT3's 2013-14 Season

Lincoln Center Theater Producing Artistic Director Andre Bishop and LCT3 Artistic Director Paige Evans have announced a slate of three new works to be produced by LCT3, Lincoln Center Theater's programming initiative devoted to producing the work of new artists and developing new audiences, during the 2013-2014 season. First up will be the world premiere of LUCE, marking the professional debut of playwright JC Lee, directed by May Adrales (Saturday, October 5 through Sunday, November 17 - opening Monday, October 21). LUCE will be followed in January with a second world premiere, STOP HITTING YOURSELF, created by Rude Mechs (Monday, January 13 through Sunday, February 23, 2014 - opening Monday, January 27). The season will conclude with the New York premiere of 2013 Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Ayad Akhtar's new play THE WHO AND THE WHAT, directed by Kimberly Senior (Saturday, May 31 through Sunday, July 13, 2014 - opening Monday, June 16).
