Bay Area Children's Theatre Students Honored for Excellence in Dance

?They'd been told not to expect any recognition for their hard work. After all, this was their very first competition ever.  So you can imagine the happy cacophony that broke out on Sunday, when the 31 members of the Bay Area Children's Theatre's Advanced Performers troupe won an award for Excellence in Dance at the Junior Theatre Festival (JTF) in Atlanta.

BWW Review: Audiences SAIL AWAY with a Fabulous Cast at 42nd Street Moon

Noel Coward's musical "Sail Away" has plenty of charm, but little substance. Its song and dance enchant, but in the end depend on a strong cast to sell a frail plot. 1962 London had Elaine Stitch. 2015 San Francisco has Allison F. Rich. Lively, sharp and ready with a sarcastic whip for any occasion, Rich commands the stage as cruise director Mimi Paragon in the 42nd Street Moon production.

42nd Street Moon Presents SAIL AWAY, Now thru 11/15

42nd Street Moon, San Francisco's oldest resident professional musical theatre company, opens its 23rd season with Noel Coward's penultimate musical, the sparkling high seas comedy SAIL AWAY. Although this saucy look at travelers on a Mediterranean cruise opened on Broadway in 1961 and the West End in 1962, it has never been fully staged on the West Coast, until now.

New Reggae Children's Musical THREE LITTLE BIRDS to Open in January

The sun is shining in Cattawood Springs, a small village on the Island of Jamaica, but timid, 11-year-old Ziggy prefers to stay indoors, watching TV, "just making sure that there are no hurricanes coming." When his tricky friend Nansi lures him out of the house, the two children are in for an unexpected test of their courage and ingenuity.

BWW Reviews: THE BOY FRIEND is the Best Friend Around

Today women go to college to get their MRS degree, but apparently, back in the day, the youthful elite traveled to the south of France for school, and with great hopes of finding the perfect boyfriend. Such is the setting for 42nd Street Moon's latest production, "The Boy Friend," a delightful romp through the sunny beaches and high societies of 1920's Nice. It's nicer in Nice, but it's just as lovely at the Eureka Theatre in San Francisco, where director and choreographer Cindy Goldfield offers the most creative dancing and staging for the most adorable characters currently on stage.
