Trinity Rep opens its 49th season this month with Shakespeare's sweeping tragedy King Lear, a co-production with The Dallas Theater Center (DTC) and directed by DTC artistic director Kevin Moriarty. When the aging King Lear decides to divide his power between his three daughters, the results are devastating to the family - and the country. Driven by flattery, foolishness, ambition and greed, each generation soon betrays another and even nature itself revolts. King Lear runs through October 21 in Trinity Rep's intimate Dowling Theater. The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Patrick Willingham) will begin previews on Monday, August 6 for The Mobile Shakespeare Unit's RICHARD III, directed by Amanda Dehnert. Following a three-week tour, bringing free Shakespeare to audiences who have limited or no access to the arts, RICHARD III will run at The Public Theater through Saturday, August 25, with an official press opening on Saturday, August 11. Tickets are $15 and on sale now.

The National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) announced today the eight musicals selected to be part of the 24th Annual Festival of New Musicals at New World Stages (340 West 50th Street).

Quincy Dunn Baker joins the cast of Kenny Finkle's ALIVE AND WELL at Canal Park Playhouse's monthly BACK ROOM READING SERIES. Directed by Samuel Buggeln, the reading of ALIVE AND WELL takes place on Wednesday, May 16 at 7 PM at Canal Park Playhouse (508 Canal Street, between Greenwich and West Streets in Tribeca). Dallas Theater Center Artistic Director Kevin Moriarty announced today that DTC Associate Artist Joel Ferrell has been promoted to Associate Artistic Director. In his new position, Ferrell will continue to direct and choreograph plays and musicals at DTC, while also expanding his role as the lead producer of DTC's mainstage productions. Ferrell will work closely with guest directors and designers to oversee productions from the initial creative process, including design and casting, through the productions' rehearsals and performances. Ferrell began working for DTC on a freelance basis in the late 1990s and joined the artistic staff on a full time basis in 2009.

Mozart's THE MAGIC FLUTE will be simulcast live tonight, April 28, 2012 at 7:30 PM (doors open at 6:00 PM) at the high-tech home of the Dallas Cowboys at One Legends Way in Arlington, Texas. Patrons will be able to enjoy a complete, unabridged live performance on the world's largest high-definition video board structure, comprised of four massive viewing screens (the largest, 72 feet tall and 160 feet wide) suspended directly above the playing field.

Dallas Theater Center Artistic Director Kevin Moriarty announced today the theater's 2012-13 season, which will take place at the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre at the AT&T Performing Arts Center and the historic Kalita Humphreys Theater. DTC's 54th season will include three world premieres; two new musicals; the culmination of DTC's four-year Shakespeare cycle; and several nationally acclaimed plays making their North Texas debut.

The Dallas Opera has announced details on its 250thproduction: a haunting and evocative 1980 chamber opera masterpiece, THE LIGHTHOUSE, by British composer Peter Maxwell Davies, opening Friday, March 16, 2012 at 7:30 PM in collaboration with the Dallas Theater Center.

The Dallas Opera will offer the remaining tickets for the three performances that will launch the company's exciting, new chamber opera series to the general public, in the nick of time for holiday gift giving.
