SNOW FALLING ON CEDARS Plays BPA, Now thru 3/29
by BWW News Desk - Mar 13, 2015

Against the backdrop of an America torn by World War II, cultures and communities clash when a Japanese American islander is accused of murder. This hauntingly lyrical saga-adapted from David Guterson's acclaimed story of mystery, love, and identity-deftly shifts from courtroom to strawberry fields to bloody battlefront, digging for hard truths buried in a forgotten history. Set in 1954 in a Puget Sound community divided among fishermen and farmers, whites and Japanese, SNOW FALLING ON CEDARS is at once a courtroom drama, a mystery, a love story, and, in flashbacks, a social history freighted with the angry residue of World War II and the exclusion of Japanese Americans.

BWW Reviews: A Winning Sweetness in SPT's HUMBLE BOY
by Jay Irwin - Feb 1, 2015

Charlotte Jones' "Humble Boy", currently playing at Seattle Public Theater, may not rock your world or alter your perceptions on life or anything like that but this sweet family dramedy has plenty of charm and humor. True it's a bit long winded at times but with such engaging performances and interesting characters, you can get over that and still walk away with a contented little sigh.

Taproot Theatre Begins BACH AT LEIPZIG, 5/17
by Kelsey Denette - Apr 12, 2013

With shows like American Idol, The Voice and America's Got Talent all the rage, Taproot Theatre brings the original 18th century reality show to the stage as Itamar Moses' Bach at Leipzig opens on May 17. Imagine, Leipzig, 1722. Germany's most renowned music director is dead at the keyboard. As the country's greatest organists descend to vie for the job, melodies of rivalry, trickery and blackmail compose a fugue of plots and counterplots. Rooted in history but reveling in flights of fiction, Bach at Leipzig is deliciously scored with wild and witty revelations. Associate Artistic Director Karen Lund directs Bach at Leipzig, which runs through June 15, with previews on May 15 and 16. There is a Pay What You Can performance on May 22.

BWW Reviews: Glimpsing the Aristocratic Elbow - ANNA KARENINA at Portland Center Stage, Ends 5/6
by Barrett Johnson - May 1, 2012

Portland Center Stage puts on ANNA KARENINA, and the women of both the story and the show are more dynamic than they get credit for. Also a much-needed discussion concerning adaptation decisions, Modernism's place in realist fiction, and why selling a joke can ruin can ruin a punchline. Runs through May 6.
