BWW Review: MTW Mounts a Pulsating MEMPHIS
by Don Grigware - Oct 24, 2016

Winner of the 2010 Tony Award for Best Musical, Memphis is an eye-catching, heart-throbbing musical and fictionalized account of how the music business of the 50s actually changed, and as its lead DJ Huey Carmichael would say, it's 'fantastical'! Memphis is currently being revived by MTW in Long Beach for three weeks only through November 6, and the production is thrilling from top to bottom with a great book, great score, sensational direction and choreography and a truly fantastic cast of triple threat actors, singers and dancers. Memphis is one those rare shows that gives the audience a realistic picture of radio and the emergence of television as it took possession of the nation in the early 50s.

With a book by acclaimed playwright Alfred Uhry ('Driving Miss Daisy') and a rousing, colorful and haunting score by Jason Robert Brown ('Songs For A New World,' 'The Last Five Years,' 'Bridges Of Madison County'), 'Parade' is a moving examination of one of the darkest corners of America's history. David Daniels directs, with music direction by Ben Ginsberg, vocal direction by Marilyn Anderson, and choreography by Brance Souza.

BWW Review: CHILDREN OF EDEN at Cabrillo Music Theatre
by Cary Ginell - Apr 10, 2016

With the angst over the immediate future of Cabrillo Music Theatre finally receding into the background, it's time to focus once again on what is happening on the Cabrillo stage. Its current production of Children of Eden, which made its debut last night at the Fred Kavli Theatre, proves how indispensable Cabrillo continues to be to the arts in this community. The high production values, sensitive direction, superlative casting, and, yes, insistence on live musicians in the pit, have made Cabrillo a consistently professional theater company in Ventura County for more than two decades, a streak that, thanks to some Frank Merriwell heroics by anonymous donors, will continue on for the time being.
