Opera is not short of stories where women are violated and abandoned by the men in their lives but Leoš Janáček’s Jenůfa is an especially cruel tale.

After the terrific success of last November's production of Das Rheingold and May's Die Walküre, Regents Opera pushes forward into the second half of Wagner's epic Ring cycle with their fresh take on Siegfried. A bold undertaking for a chamber opera company, Regents Opera has set out to perform every note of Wagner's masterpiece in its entirety over the span of three years.

This spring, the Phelim McDermott production of Philip Glass's Akhnaten returns to the London Coliseum for its second English National Opera (ENO) revival since its premiere in 2016.

The English National Opera's (ENO) spring season opens this February with the return of Calixto Bieito's fiery Carmen to the London Coliseum. Its third revival since it was first staged in 2012, this is one of the most popular operas ever written, featuring Bizet's instantly recognisable searing score. 

Welsh National Opera brings Spring 2022 Season to Milton Keynes which features Mozart's Don Giovanni and Janáček's Jenůfa. The Company's critically acclaimed new production of Puccini's Madam Butterfly which opened in Autumn 2021 will also be performed during the Season.

Welsh National Opera has announced full details of its Autumn 2021 Season which features a new production of Puccini’s Madam Butterfly and WNO’s much-loved production of Rossini’s The Barber of Seville. A series of digital talks and events to explore the themes of Madam Butterfly are also planned. 

Los Angeles Opera presents The Anonymous Lover (L'Amant Anonyme), an unjustly neglected 1780 chamber opera by Joseph Bologne, known as the Chevalier de Saint-Georges. Pegasus Opera company presents two events for Black History Month.

Manon Lescaut, sponsored by Viking Cruises, opens the season with the British lyric soprano Elizabeth Llewellyn in the title role. Named 'Best newcomer in opera' by The Telegraph in 2010 following her operatic debut as Mimi in La boheme at English National Opera, Llewellyn has gone from strength to strength on the international stage. She was last at OHP in 2017, as Magda in La rondine. The Welsh bass-baritone Paul Carey Jones makes his OHP debut as Lescaut. His recent career highlights include his Royal Opera House debut in The Nose and the Scottish premiere of Philip Glass's The Trial with Scottish Opera.

Pegasus Opera Company honours the life of its founder Lloyd Newton and Black History month by staging Celebrate Pegasus! concert on Thursday 5 October at the Actors Church (St Paul's) Covent Garden, Bedford Street, London WC2E 9ED. The concert will be performed from 7.30-9.30pm with a reception following the concert.
