Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the man and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the leader merge in Katori Hall's award-winning drama The Mountaintop, receiving its Philadelphia premiere at Philadelphia Theatre Company on January 18-February 17 at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre (Broad and Lombard Streets). The Alley Theatre's production of Katori Hall's The Mountaintop, produced in association with Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater in Washington D.C., will feature Bowman Wright as DR. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Joaquina Kalukango as Camae. The director is Robert O'Hara. The Mountaintop runs on the Alley Theatre's Hubbard Stage tonight, January 11 through February 3, 2013.

This week rehearsals begin for Katori Hall's magical new play, The Mountaintop. Already a worldwide sensation-winner of London's Olivier Award and recently hailed in a star-studded Broadway production-the play receives its highly anticipated Baltimore premiere tonight, January 9, 2013.

Paul Robinson has announced the full cast for his first production as sole Artistic Director of Battersea's Theatre503. Tony Award-winning actress Brid Brennan will star in Desolate Heaven, the world premiere by Irish writer Ailís Ní Ríain. She is joined by Evelyn Lockley and Carla Langley, who both make their professional debuts in this love story between two young girls, who burdened with unnatural responsibilities, run away together. It will run at Theatre503, above the Latchmere Pub in Battersea, from 5 February to 2 March 2013.

The Playwrights Foundation announces the 2013 Winter Rough Readings Series, January 14 - March 12, 2013 at Stanford University and in San Francisco. The winter readings series features: Chiori Miyagawa's This Lingering Life, January 14 & 15; Jonathan Spector's In From the Cold February 11 & 12 and Frances Ya-Chu Cowhig's The World of Extreme Happiness March 11 & 12.

Written by Memphis native Katori Hall, The Mountaintop is a reimagining of the events of April 3rd, 1968. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. has just returned to his room at The Lorraine Motel after giving one of his most memorable speeches. When a mysterious young woman visits his room with some surprising news, Dr. King must come to terms with his destiny in the play The Associated Press called a, "thrilling, wonderful, provocative flight of magical realism." Winner of the 2010 Olivier Award for Best New Play.

Kennedy Prize for Drama Inspired by American History, has announced the five finalist plays for works produced for the first time in 2012. The Prize was established in 2012 and these are the first group of finalists to be named by the Prize Board.

On Monday, December 10th at 2:30pm, with an audience of 300 in attendance, the winners of the 3rd annual Clive Barnes Awards will be announced. With Michael Reidel serving as host, the presenters this year include Frederic Franklin, CBE, Paloma Herrera, and Maya Johansen (Bernes).The Clive Barnes Foundation have previously announced the nominees for the 2012 Clive Barnes Awards, a distinguished annual honor recognizing the work of young actors and dancers in New York City. This years' nominees for theatre are Joaquina Kalukango for her performance in Signature Theatre Company's production of Katori Hall's Hurt Village, Derek Klena for his performance in Second Stage Theatre's production of Dogfight, directed by Joe Mantello, Rob McClure for his performance in Chaplin, now in performances at the Barrymore Theatre, and Stephen Tyrone Williams for his performance in Signature Theatre Company's production of Athol Fugard's My Children, My Africa. For dance, the nominees are Lauren Lovette (New York City Ballet), Steven Melendez (New York Theater Ballet), and Ashley Murphy (Dance Theater of Harlem).

Casting is complete for the world premiere of Amandine, the new musical from writer Winter Miller, 13P founding member who penned In Darfur (The Public Theater), among other acclaimed plays; Emmy Award-winning composer Lance Horne, who is known for his own work and collaborations with Alan Cumming, Amanda Palmer, Meow Meow, Sandra Bernhard and Justin Vivian Bond; and Drama Desk Award-winning director Josh Hecht (Christine Jorgensen Reveals). The production will run January 9-26, 2013 at the Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce Street) main stage. Critics are welcome as of January 13 for an official opening on January 16.
