Philadelphia Theatre Company was the top winner of this year's Barrymore Awards for Excellence in Theatre with seven awards, the most of any Philadelphia-area theater company. This brings PTC's total number of Barrymore Awards to 53 cumulative wins and 155 nominations.

The Castillo Theatre is opening its 29th season with the American premiere of Children of Killers by award-winning playwright, Katori Hall, beginning tonight September 21, 2012.

Kenny Leon and True Colors Theatre Company have announced the regional premiere of the Broadway hit The Mountaintop by Katori Hall directed by Jasmine Guy. This gripping re-imagining of the events the night before the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr will star Danny Johnson (What I Learned in Paris) as Dr. King, and Demetria McKinney (Tyler Perry's House of Payne) as Camae. A soul-stirring hit in London and on Broadway, The Mountaintop's humorous, magical storytelling fuses theatricality with spirituality to reach a summit that will leave audiences breathless. The Mountaintop is written by playwright Katori Hall and will be directed by Rep Artistic Associate May Adrales, who returns to The Rep after directing last season's critically-acclaimed production of Yellowman. The Mountaintop runs in The Rep's Stiemke Studio from September 26 - November 4, and opens Friday, September 28.

In 2013 MTC presents four world premieres from some of Australia's most accomplished playwrights and five Australian premieres of works from UK, Europe, South Africa and USA. Melbourne Theatre Company celebrates the opening of its 2013 season and 60th anniversary year with the Australian premiere of THE OTHER PLACE by Sharr White.

The Lark Play Development Center named five New York City-based dramatists as Playwrights' Workshop Fellows for the 2012-13 season. The group spans a wide range of cultural backgrounds and professional experiences and will meet regularly through June to develop new plays.

The Creative Writing Reading Series at Emory University kicks off Oct. 2 at 6:30 p.m. with two of the Creative Writing Program's postgraduate fellows in residence. Molly Brodak, Creative Writing Fellow in Poetry, and Harmony Neal, Creative Writing Fellow in Fiction, will give a joint reading of new work. A book signing will follow the reading.
