KCRep Kicks Off Season with World Premiere Musical

Kansas City Repertory Theatre launches its 2018/2019 season with the World Premiere musical, LAST DAYS OF SUMMER, September 7 - 30, 2018. LAST DAYS is based on the book by author Steve Kluger, who also wrote the book and lyrics for this production. LAST DAYS OF SUMMER features music by Grammy winner Jason Howland, is directed and choreographed by Tony nominee Jeff Calhoun (Broadway's NEWSIES, KCRep's BETWEEN THE LINES), and is produced by special arrangement with Daryl Roth (Broadway's KINKY BOOTS and INDECENT, KCRep's BETWEEN THE LINES).

Kansas City Actors Theatre has completed casting for its production of David Hare's "Skylight," the fifth and final show of its thirteenth season, which will run May 23 to June 10 at the H&R Block City Stage in Union Station. The production will be directed by Darren Sextro and will star Katie Karel (in her first appearance with Kansas City Actors Theatre), John Rensenhouse, and Charlie Spillers. The production team includes Bret Engle (scenic designer), Elizabeth Sampley (properties designer), Sarah M. Oliver (costumer designer), Kylor Greene (lighting designer), Jonathan Robertson (sound designer), and Kyle Dyck (technical director).

YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU is the current production running at The New Theatre in Overland Park, Kansas. Dennis D. Hennessy directs the comedic play written by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart. James A. Misenheimer provides a fantastic set for the cast to operate in and Treva Farrell designed the choreography mainly performed by Katie Karel as Essie Carmichael.

Richard Carrothers directs The Addams Family a New Musical running through September 20 at the dinner theater. Hairspray with book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan, music by Marc Shaiman, and lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman runs through July 12. Dennis D. Hennessy directs the magnificent dinner theater production, with Richard J. Hinds providing choreography and Mark Ferrell with music direction. Hennessy, Hinds, and Ferrell were in the same capacity in 2012 for The New Theatre production of Hairspray.

The Unicorn Theatre production of Women Playing Hamlet currently runs on the Jerome Stage at the theater located at 3828 Main in Kansas City, Mo. William Missouri Downs wrote the Rolling World Premiere directed by Producing Artistic Director Cynthia Levin. Women Playing Hamlet is the second Rolling World Premiere for Downs who has won numerous playwriting awards. In his day all Shakespeare's characters were played by men, in Downs play four women play 19 parts, including male characters.

A world premiere comedy with an all-woman cast, Women Playing Hamlet, opens March 4 on the Jerome Stage at the Unicorn Theatre in Kansas City, Missouri. March 4, 5 and 6 are preview nights with opening night on Saturday March 7. The production is the second Rolling World Premiere for the National New Play Network for Women Playing Hamlet's author William Missouri Downs.
