Lapham's Quarterly (Editor and Publisher Lewis Lapham) announced today their annual gala, the DECADES BALL: The 1950s, was held last night, June 3 at Capitale (130 Bowery at Grand Street). The evening, emceed by Public Theater Artistic Director Oskar Eustis, included performances and readings by Tom Hanks and Patricia Clarkson, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Martha Plimpton, Tony Kushner, Ari Graynor, Steven Pasquale, Francois Battiste, Paul Muldoon, Nellie McKay, and a toast by Editor and Publisher of Lapham's Quarterly, Lewis Lapham. The Public Theater presents the world premiere musical Here Lies Love, with concept and lyrics by David Byrne, music by David Byrne and Fatboy Slim, additional music by Tom Gandey and J Pardo, and choreography by Annie-B Parson. Award-winning stage and screen actress Fiona Shaw returned to Broadway last night, April 22, for the opening of The Testament of Mary, by the acclaimed author Colm Toibin, directed by Deborah Warner. Jesse Tyler Ferguson of 'Modern Family' will be starting a family of his own with Justin Mikita very soon, as the two became engaged this September. Ferguson revealed his marriage proposal, which Justin accepted, in a video on the Tie the Knot website, a new foundation that supports marriage rights and equality. The couple is working with Tie Bar on a line of bowties to raise money for organizations that support the garnering of civil rights for gay and lesbian marriage, and Tie The Knot's bow ties for equality are now available online at www.tietheknot.org.
