Lapham's Quarterly (Editor and Publisher Lewis Lapham) announced today their annual gala, the DECADES BALL: The 1950s, was held last night, June 3 at Capitale (130 Bowery at Grand Street). The evening, emceed by Public Theater Artistic Director Oskar Eustis, included performances and readings by Tom Hanks and Patricia Clarkson, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Martha Plimpton, Tony Kushner, Ari Graynor, Steven Pasquale, Francois Battiste, Paul Muldoon, Nellie McKay, and a toast by Editor and Publisher of Lapham's Quarterly, Lewis Lapham. Kevin Philips received the 2013 Janus Prize, presented by benefit co-chair Morley Safer.

LEWIS LAPHAM is the founder, editor, and publisher of Lapham's Quarterly, and editor emeritus of Harper's Magazine. Lapham in 2007 was inducted into the American Society of Magazine Editors Hall of Fame. He is the author of thirteen books, among them Money and Class in America, The Wish for Kings, Waiting for the Barbarians and Theater of War. He produces a weekly podcast, "The World in Time" for Bloomberg News, and his documentary film, The American Ruling Class has become part of the curriculum in many of the nation's schools and colleges. A member of the Council on Foreign Relations, Lapham has lectured at many of the nation's leading universities, including Yale, Princeton, Dartmouth, and Stanford and the Universities of Michigan, Virginia, and Oregon.
LAPHAM'S QUARTERLY is an award-winning and critically-acclaimed journal of history and ideas, praised by the historian David McCullough as "a godsend and a genuine treasure," and by the novelist Dave Eggers as "brilliant and much needed." Lapham's Quarterly was a National Magazine Award Finalist in 2011 for its issues on "Religion," "Arts & Letters," and "The City."
