During a tumultuous period of less than a hundred years, England experienced civil war and political upheaval as the throne switched hands nine times. Shakespeare dramatized these events over the course of his career in eight remarkable plays: Richard the Second, Henry the Fourth Part 1, Henry the Fourth Part 2, Henry the Fifth, Henry the Sixth Part 1, Henry the Sixth Part 2, Henry the Sixth Part 3, and Richard the Third. With an ensemble of twenty actors, Brave Spirits Theatre will stage these eight plays over the next two years, culminating in marathon performance weekends during July 2021.
Two years ago, lying on a couch in the #9 Lounge at the Evening Star Cafe in Alexandria, VA, I was eulogized. I had watched other audience members receive secret family recipes, help rehearse a marriage proposal, even destroy a speed limit sign with a hammer. But the card I drew was Death. So, naturally, I was eulogized in front of the rest of the audience. The thing my funeral had in common with all these other short vignettes was the sense that, without my involvement, none of this could happen. I mattered. When it was done, I opened my eyes, took the flower offered to me, and found my seat. The oration was by Quill Nebeker, my Medium for the evening.
'The Legend of Sleepy Hollow' draws from American literature and a variety of cinematic treatments. In typical Synetic fashion, however, the story is quite literally turned on its head.
I've seen a lot of Shakespeare lately. It's a staple of the theater scene because it's relevant to nearly every time and place. In this spirit, WSC Avant Bard calls forth an enthusiastic, semi-contemporary version of THE TEMPEST, Shakespeare's New World piece predicting the drama of the American melting pot.

In Synetic Theater's Hansel and Gretel, based loosely on Grimm's fairytale version, Hansel (Justin J. Bell) and Gretel (Sharisse Taylor) go from being in the mall with their distracted babysitter (Raven Wilkes) to being in a mysterious wonderland with no mall or babysitter to be found. While Synetic's production is less dark than Grimm's, it is just as entertaining for children and adults alike.
Arts on the Horizon, an interactive theatre for children ages zero to six, is excited to announce the premiere of Nutt and Bolt, the story of two rival robots who unite to create something fantastic together.

Synetic Theater invites you to the 10th annual Vampire's Ball on Friday, October 28. This year, the Vampire's Ball will follow Synetic's hellish adaptation of Dante's Inferno. After traveling the nine circles of hell with Dante, guests will dance the night away with music courtesy of Resident Composer and Halloween DJ, Konstantine Lortkipanidze. The event will include an open bar, light appetizers, and a costume contest with fabulous Synetic prizes. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below!
While the concept is fun and some laughs are big, overall, the production value and artistic liberties of Synetic Theater's MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING aren't what you'd expect from this company.
