Just as critics and cinephiles are unveiling their "Best of 2015" lists, Museum of the Moving Image has announced the eight titles selected for its annual Curators' Choice series. The films will be shown January 1 through 10, 2016, in the Museum's majestic Sumner M. Redstone Theater.
The American Film Institute (AFI) announces today the complete slate of films for the 2015 edition of its AFI European Union Film Showcase, taking place December 120 at the historic AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center in Silver Spring, Maryland. This year's AFI European Union Film Showcase is generously supported by the Delegation of the European Union to the United States as the presenting partner through the EU's Getting to Know Europe grant. Now in its 28th year, the AFI European Union Film Showcase highlights the year's best European filmmaking, featuring a selection of more than 50 films representing all 28 European Union member states, including international film festival award winners, regional box office hits, debut works by promising new talents and many countries' official submissions for the Best Foreign Language Film Academy Award .

Stripped to the essentials - a stage, a handful of actors, a rapt audience - ANTIGONE recently proved once again its place in the pantheon of the world's finest tragic plays. The international production of the Sophokles drama made a short stop in Washington for the last leg of a national tour of select American cities, helmed by the Belgian theatre wunderkind Ivo van Hove. French film and theatre star Juliette Binoche led an ensemble of U.K.-based actors who clearly illuminated the timeless tale of family devotion versus the law.
'[Thank you] to an incredible cast of British and American actors who make the Atlantic look like a little creek you can just kind of pop across,' said Dame Helen Mirren upon receiving her 2015 Tony Award. The stage and screen star reprised her critically-acclaimed performance in THE AUDIENCE after a West End run in 2013, and she was just one of many to 'pop across' an ocean for a stab at Broadway. An unprecedented amount of British talent took over Broadway last year, bringing us such productions as THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME, WOLF HALL: PARTS 1 & 2, and SKYLIGHT.
It doesn't seem like the trend is ending anytime soon.
This fall, Broadway will welcome a slew of British actors- some of whom will be making their US stage debuts in incoming productions. And it's not just performers.
