The accomplished musical theatre performer has been seen more recently in concert tours.

Just before New Year's is often a time of reflection, and BroadwayWorld is taking a moment to look back on the brightest lights in theatre this season. From a history-making creative team to jaw-dropping newby performers and an undeniable cult figure, we think 2015 has seen the rise of some of the top talents in the performing arts world.

NBC's broadcasts of THE SOUND OF MUSIC (2013), PETER PAN (2014), and THE WIZ (2015) showed us that everyone and their GBF has a strong opinion about every aspect of these broadcasts. In light of this heated debate, we decided to get everyone's opinions out there by asking the BroadwayWorld readers to share which shows they think should be broadcast live next.

The Marvelous Wonderettes are back!  Producers Tom and Michael D'Angora are bringing the long running Off-Broadway hit musical to New York's Theatre Row this spring.  The production, which features such classic 50's and 60's hits such as  "Lollipop," "Dream Lover," "Stupid Cupid," "Son of a Preacher Man," "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me," and "It's My Party," will feature two time Drama Desk nominee and Youtube sensation Christina Bianco and Emmy Award nominee Kathy Brier.  Additional casting and creative team will be announced early next year.

Now that we are a week removed from last Thursday's THE WIZ LIVE!, NBC's third live musical in as many years, we know that the production has predominantly been hailed as a critical and ratings success, vindicating the audacious experiment after two, less than artistically satisfying, outings. Led by a newcomer plucked from an open call, director Kenny Leon and executive producers Neil Meron and Craig Zadan found a star in Shanice Williams and surrounded her with an all-star cast that ranged from serviceable to revelatory. However, as enjoyable as the event was, especially in relationship to past efforts, THE WIZ LIVE! was not a perfect production. There is, after all, a reason why no one did live TV musicals for nearly half a century; they are hard.

The first national tour of THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY opens at the Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre tonight, December 10, 2015, and plays through January 17, 2016. 

Parody Twitter accounts can be a lot of things. They can be sarcastic (Condescending Wonka), they can make you think (Bored Elon Musk), they can be utterly ridiculous (not the real Bill Murray). The theatre community's favorite parody account, Annoying Actor Friend, has been all of those things at different times during its nearly three and a half year existence. The one constant for the character, whether it was brazenly flirting with the official SMASH account, championing causes important to theatre actors and fans, or shamelessly plugging its concerts and books, has been its anonymity. That is of course until yesterday when the account, followed by over 20,000 people, innocuously retweeted a link from a seemingly random blog by Andrew Briedis.
