Rodgers + Hammerstein's CINDERELLA, the 2013 Tony® Award-winning Broadway musical from the creators of South Pacific and The Sound of Music, will play Omaha's Orpheum Theater Tuesday, March 15 through Sunday, March 20, 2016. The touring production is part of the Omaha Performing Arts Broadway series.

Victoria Theatre Association announces the 2015-2016 Premier Health Broadway Series presentation of RODGERS + HAMMERSTEIN'S CINDERELLA. The 2013 Tony Award-winning Broadway musical from the creators of South Pacific and The Sound of Music, will play at the Benjamin & Marian Schuster Performing Arts Center for a limited engagement from Feb. 9 to Feb.14.

The Bridges of Madison County tour is in full-swing and recently understudies Cole Burden and Trista Moldovan took the stage at KHOU in Houston, Texas to sing the critically acclaimed musical number, 'One Second and a Million Miles.'

Today in 1938, Pygmalion opened at the Maxine Elliott's Theatre. Written by Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw, the play centers on Professor of phonetics Henry Higgins. He makes a bet that he can train a bedraggled Cockney flower girl, Eliza Doolittle, to pass for a duchess at an ambassador's garden party by teaching her to assume a veneer of gentility, the most important element of which, he believes, is impeccable speech. The play is a sharp lampoon of the rigid British class system of the day and a comment on women's independence, packaged as a romantic comedy.

Jenna Leigh Green and Sally Schwab will join One Life to Live's Kathy Brier and two-time Drama Desk Award nominee, Christina Bianco, in the Off-Broadway revival of The Marvelous Wonderettes, opening this spring! 

AMERICAN SHOWSTOPPERS - featuring Fred Barton & His Orchestra and starring a cast of today's best Broadway performers - will present "An Evening with Cole Porter" at Pace University's Schimmel Center in New York on Friday, March 4 at 7:30 PM and then Kingsborough Community College's Goldstein Center in Brooklyn on Saturday, March 5 at 8:00 PM.  The cast of outstanding Broadway performers includes Beth Leavel (Tony Award winner for The Drowsy Chaperone), Sean McGibbon, Paula Leggett Chase, Damon Kirsche, Karen Murphy and Jesse Luttrell in addition to the Scott Thompson Dancers. I haven't posted a story yet this year because I've been busy. For the past two weeks, I've been immersed in learning the flute part to the score of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, which concludes a brief four-day, five-show run this afternoon at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts. Spelling Bee is a great show for improv artists, and being in the pit for rehearsals and every show, I am able to see how the actors handle the show's free structure, which allows for improvisation. If you've seen the show, you know what I'm talking about. Spelling Bee is being staged by YA4Ever, the alumni group of Young Artists Ensemble. To help out on this show, writer/director Michael Fischer agreed to play the part of Vice Principal Douglas Panch, the contest's 'word pronouncer.' We talked to Michael after a particularly riotous Saturday matinee performance.

When the glorious national tour of the beloved Rodgers and Hammerstein musical THE SOUND OF MUSIC sets up shop at Orlando's Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts tonight, it will be a homecoming of sorts for one of the show's leading ladies. Though Teri Hansen, who plays the Baroness Elsa Schraeder, is a native of Detroit, after earning her degree in Opera at Florida State, she spent a year as an artist in residence with the now closed Orlando Opera.
