Musical Theatre West brings a "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious," production of Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's Mary Poppins to the Carpenter Performing Arts Center July 7-23. Due to an overwhelming demand, MTW has added an additional and final performance on Sunday, July 23, 6:00 pm. Practically perfect in every way, it's a high flying fun filled adventure for the young and young at heart. Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the classic Walt Disney film, Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's production features the delectable Sherman Brothers score, including 'A Spoonful of Sugar,' 'Jolly Holiday,' 'Let's Go Fly a Kite,' 'Step in Time,' and 'Chim Chim Cher-ee," as well as new musical additions, by the Olivier winning team of George Stiles and Anthony Drewe. The nominations for Australia's Live Performance industry awards, the HELPMANN AWARDS were announced last night at simultaneous events across the country (2017 Nominations List). Named in honour of Sir Robert Helpmann's long and diverse career, the awards principle objective, according to Live Performance Australia (LPA) is to "promote the Australian live performance industry" by recognising "distinguished artistic achievement and excellence". LPA consider the HELPMANN AWARDS as Australia's version of Broadway's Tony Awards and London's Olivier Awards.

The premiere event, which runs from June 9 - June 11, features local favorite Laura Hodos performing her acclaimed show, Julie and Mary and Ethel and Babs!, a program of songs associated with musical theatre legends Julie Andrews, Mary Martin, Ethel Merman, and Barbra Streisand. Selections include numbers from such shows as My Fair Lady, South Pacific, The Sound of Music, Gypsy, and Funny Girl. Hodos will be accompanied by Paul Reekie at the piano.
