MasterVoices has announced details of the chorus’ 81st season, celebrating the power of the human voice to unite, inspire and connect since 1941. The 2022-23 season opens on October 25 at the Rose Theater at Jazz at Lincoln Center with Mr. Sperling leading a concert staging of Bizet’s Carmen in its original Opéra Comique version.

Today, The Cleveland Orchestra announces its 105th season of concerts at Severance Music Center from September 2022 to May 2023. The National Symphony Orchestra, led by Music Director  Gianandrea Noseda and Executive Director Gary Ginstling, announces its classical  programming for the 2022–2023 season. Dutch National Opera has announced its 2022/2023 season, with La Liberté? as its central theme. It promises to be a jam-packed season with no fewer than 15 productions, 4 world premieres, 2 European premieres, 6 new productions, 4 family operas as well as a new edition of the Opera Forward Festival.

I couldn’t help thinking of a new science fiction-comedy series on Amazon during the local premiere of UPLOAD, the opera by Michel van der Aa at the Park Avenue Armory on Tuesday. Both had the same name. Both explore a near future where technology controls everything, including the afterlife, as a person can choose to “upload” its consciousness to continue living digitally. Both pose questions, though in different ways, about humanity, technology, consumerism, and so on.

The American Modern Opera Company (AMOC), led by Artistic Director Zack Winokur, has received a $750,000 grant from the celebrated Andrew W. Mellon Foundation “to support visionary artists in collaborative processes that re-envision a long-enduring art form in an artist-centric and contemporary manner.” 

In a Carnegie Hall first, The Cecilia Chorus of New York, Mark Shapiro, Music Director, will present a reimagining of two modern masterpieces: Carl Orff's Carmina Burana and Igor Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at 8:00PM in Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall, 57th Street & 7th Avenue in Manhattan.

The concert features mezzo-soprano Lucia Bradford, soprano Kearstin Piper Brown, and baritone Jorell Williams, together with pianists Nathaniel LaNasa and Steven Blier, in works by Black composers that include H. Leslie Adams, Margaret Bonds, Harry Burleigh, Adolphus C. Hailstork, Robert Owens, Hale Smith, and William Grant Still..

This spring, Park Avenue Armory will present the North American premiere of Dutch composer, film and stage director, and librettist Michel van der Aa’s groundbreaking new opera Upload, following its acclaimed run at the Dutch National Opera in fall 2021.

In honor of the 50th anniversary of Houston's Rothko Chapel, DACAMERA and Park Avenue Armory have commissioned boundary-breaking composer Tyshawn Sorey to create a new work inspired by the Chapel. In turn, Sorey drew inspiration from Morton Feldman's 20th-century masterpiece, Rothko Chapel, which premiered there in 1972.

DACAMERA, a Houston-based presenter of chamber music and jazz concerts, announces the world premiere of American composer and multi-instrumentalist Tyshawn Sorey's Monochromatic Light (Afterlife) on Saturday, February 19 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, February 20 at 3 p.m.
