FUNNY GIRL, the sensational musical comedy revival, is coming to Seattle's Paramount Theatre for a limited one-week engagement from September 24 – 29.

Dear Readers, I’m of two minds in reviewing this revised production of “Peter Pan” currently playing at the Paramount. First as a season ticket holder who came to the show with no kids and wants a quality musical, I question the inclusion of this in the season and find it not all that great, but from the viewpoint of a kids show, it has its merits.

Regarded by many theatre professionals as the finest musical ever created, Gypsy is the ultimate tale of an ambitious stage mother fighting for her daughters’ success – while secretly yearning for her own. Set all across America in the 1920s and 30s, when vaudeville was dying and burlesque was born, Arthur Laurents’ landmark show explores the world of two-bit show business with brass, humor, heart and sophistication. Performances run Aug. 23, 24, 30, & 31 @ 7:30pm and Aug. 25, & Sept. 1 @ 2pm at Columbus Performing Arts Center, Van Fleet Theatre, 549 Franklin Ave, Columbus, Ohio 43125. The Alhambra Theater and Dining has announced its upcoming production of the beloved Broadway classic, 'Gypsy, a Musical Fable,' set for August 22 through September 29.

Amy Sherman-Palladino makes her Broadway writing debut this season with her adapted book for Once Upon a Mattress, which opens on Monday, August 12. Mattress isn't her first try at rewriting a musical, however. She was called on to pen a new script for a new film adaptation of Gypsy and she recalls the experience in a recent interview.
