Since its very first season, music has been a central component of Segerstrom Center for the Arts' annual series. To help celebrate its 30th season, Segerstrom Center is pleased to announce the lineups for its three core music offerings, along with a few new twists.
Orange County, Calif.—March 6, 2015—The world's most brilliant playwright—William Shakespeare—is reimagined in unexpected ways when Pacific Symphony partners with Chapman University to present “Shakespeare Reimagined,” a festival that explores how The Bard's plays have inspired not only other playwrights and directors, but also composers, choreographers and filmmakers. The festival, which runs through April 19, began last month with “The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark” at Chapman University, and continues on March 13 with a semi-staged version of Mendelssohn's “A Midsummer Night's Dream,” performed by The Chapman Orchestra, Women's Choir and Department of Theatre students. The festival culminates April 16-19 with four Pacific Symphony concerts featuring Prokofiev's “Romeo and Juliet.” The ballet is presented with actors and dancers who help reinstate the composer's original happy ending, which was banned by Joseph Stalin. Center Chairman Lawrence L. Higby announced at the 41st Annual Candlelight Concert that Founders Hall would be renamed in honor of longtime Segerstrom Center executive Judith (Judy) O'Dea Morr. Earlier that week, the Center's Board of Directors voted unanimously on the new name of the Judy Morr Theater.

On the Edge is in two acts, and begins with Jean-Christophe Maillot's intriguing piece titled Switch, followed by Carolyn Carlson's profound solo work, Woman in a Room. After this world premiere engagement in Segerstrom Hall, On the Edge will make its European premiere in December at both the National Centre for Contemporary Choreography in Roubaix, France and in Monte-Carlo's Salle Garnier as part of the Les Ballet des Monte-Carlo dance season. On August 20, 2012, Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa held a special preview event to highlight its upcoming Broadway Series for the 2012 - 2013 Season. Presented at the Segerstrom Concert Hall, the showcase included live presentations from the national touring companies of MEMPHIS, WICKED and the much-anticipated Brit import WAR HORSE, interspersed with videos from each of the shows coming to Orange County starting in the Fall.
Amongst the winners were several with Broadway backgrounds: Bill Sherman (composer) and Chris Jackson (lyricist) for Sesame Street's original song 'What I Am' and Willie Reale as a co-executive producer of The Electric Company on PBS.
At a festive public ceremony held on its campus in the heart of Southern California, the Board of Directors of the Orange County Performing Arts Center today announced that the organization has changed its name to Segerstrom Center for the Arts
