The final recording and complete box set of The Nielsen Project - the New York Philharmonic's acclaimed multi-season survey of the six symphonies and three concertos by Danish composer Carl Nielsen (1865-1931) - will be released today, June 9, 2015, coinciding with the 150th anniversary of the composer's birth.

The New York Philharmonic Ensembles chamber music series will feature musicians from the Orchestra in a series of six concerts at Merkin Concert Hall during the 2015-16 season.

The final recording and complete box set of The Nielsen Project - the New York Philharmonic's acclaimed multi-season survey of the six symphonies and three concertos by Danish composer Carl Nielsen (1865-1931) - will be released June 9, 2015, coinciding with the 150th anniversary of the composer's birth. The final recording features Nielsen's complete concertos: the Flute Concerto with Principal Flute Robert Langevin, Clarinet Concerto with Principal Clarinet Anthony McGill, and Violin Concerto with Danish violinist Nikolaj Znaider.

Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam; the Royal Concertgebouw; and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, David Robertson, Chief Conductor and Artistic Director - performed by violinist Leila Josefowicz, for whom it is written and dedicated. The concerts also include two early 20th-century Russian works, Stravinsky's Petrushka (original 1911 version) and Lyadov's The Enchanted Lake.

Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam; the Royal Concertgebouw; and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, David Robertson, Chief Conductor and Artistic Director - performed by violinist Leila Josefowicz, for whom it is written and dedicated. Andrey Boreyko will return to the New York Philharmonic to conduct two weeks of performances highlighting Russian music as well as seldom-performed works. In the first program, Mr. Boreyko will conduct Stravinsky's The Song of the Nightingale; Mozart's Bassoon Concerto, with Principal Bassoon Judith LeClair; and Zemlinsky's The Mermaid, Fantasy for Orchestra, on Thursday, January 15, 2014, at 7:30 p.m.; today, January 16 at 11:00 a.m.; and Saturday, January 17 at 8:00 p.m.

The New York Philharmonic will present Dohnanyi / Dvorak: A Philharmonic Festival, today, December 4-13, 2014, featuring two all-Dvorak programs conducted by Christoph von Dohnanyi, acclaimed for his interpretations of the Czech composer.

This week, Mr. van Zweden will lead the Orchestra in Korngold's Violin Concerto, with Hilary Hahn as soloist; Beethoven's Symphony No. 7; and J. Wagenaar's Cyrano de Bergerac Overture, marking the Philharmonic's first time performing the work, tonight, November 26, 2014, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, November 28 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, November 29 at 8:00 p.m.

Jaap van Zweden - music director of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and Hong Kong Philharmonic as well as former concertmaster of Amsterdam's Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra - will return to the New York Philharmonic for the first time since his debut in April 2012 to conduct two weeks of concerts. In the first program, Mr. van Zweden will conduct Mozart's Sinfonia concertante for Violin and Viola, featuring Acting Concertmaster Sheryl Staples and Principal Viola Cynthia Phelps, and Shostakovich's Symphony No. 8, tonight, November 20, 2014, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, November 21 at 2:00 p.m.; and Saturday, November 22 at 8:00 p.m.

The inaugural class of the Shanghai Orchestra Academy (SOA) -- founded by the New York Philharmonic, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, and Shanghai Conservatory of Music -- begins studies with two weeks of coaching and master classes in Shanghai by nine New York Philharmonic musicians, September 4-12.

The February broadcasts of The New York Philharmonic This Week - the weekly radio series of concerts and recordings by the New York Philharmonic, hosted by Alec Baldwin - begin with Music Director Alan Gilbert leading the Philharmonic in Beethoven's Fidelio Overture and Symphony No. 1; Shostakovich's Violin Concerto No. 1, with Lisa Batiashvili as soloist; and Gershwin's An American in Paris. Music Director Franz Welser-Möst and The Cleveland Orchestra yesterday announced the appointment of a new Orchestra member. William Hestand has been appointed second bassoon. He joins the Orchestra on November 19. Mr. Hestand succeeds Phillip Austin, who joined the Orchestra in 1981 and retired in August 2011.

The JCC Thurnauer School of Music, recently named a Major Arts Institution by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, is pleased to announce the violin students selected to perform in a master class with New York Philharmonic concertmaster Glenn Dicterow on Sunday, April 10 from 2 to 5 p.m.
