Photo Flash: Ecstatic Music Festival: Margaret Leng Tan Premiered George Crumb, Suzanne Farrin & Kelly Moran

This concert embodied the bountiful extended potential of the piano - the now "classic avant-garde" prepared piano of John Cage; George Crumb, the venerable master still discovering new means of expression within his inimitable style; and Kelly Moran's latest contribution to the prepared piano repertoire alongside Suzanne Farrin's bold forays into new sonic territory.

Works & Process at the Guggenheim Presents THE PRINCIPLES OF UNCERTAINTY

Choreographer John Heginbotham and author/illustrator Maira Kalmandiscuss their newest collaboration featuring imaginative production design and whimsical dance theater inspired by Kalman's written work and visual art. Following the world premiere at Jacob's Pillow and before the New York premiere at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Dance Heginbotham and members of The Knights orchestra will perform highlights set to a score composed, curated, and arranged by the orchestra's artistic director Colin Jacobsen.

The Washington Ballet and The Principles of Uncertainty Close Jacob's Pillow 85th Anniversary Season

Jacob's Pillow Dance Award recipient John Heginbotham and acclaimed illustrator and author Maira Kalman join forces in the world premiere of The Principles of Uncertainty, closing the Festival in the Doris Duke Theatre, August 23-27. Co-commissioned by the Pillow and the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and developed during multiple Pillow Creative Development Residencies, The Principles of Uncertainty is an evening-length dance theatre work choreographed and directed by Heginbotham, designed by Kalman and inspired by her written and visual art, and set to a score composed, arranged, and curated by Brooklyn Rider and Silk Road Ensemble's Colin Jacobsen. Members of The Knights, Jacobsen's innovative chamber orchestra, will perform live, and Maira Kalman herself is also featured in the performance.

Miami City Ballet Opens FALL FOR DANCE Festival at NY City Center, 10/2 & 3

Miami City Ballet will present a world premiere ballet choreographed by Troy Schumacher as part of the opening program of New York City Center's 2017 Fall for Dance Festival on October 2 and 3 at New York City Center (55th Street between 6th & 7th Avenues). The new work has been commissioned by City Center and is a meditation on childhood, set to Francis Poulenc's Concerto for Two Pianos in D Minor and featuring a cast of 14 Miami City Ballet dancers.

River To River Festival 2017 Kicks Off June 14-25 Across Lower Manhattan

Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC) presents the 16th annual River To River Festival, Downtown New York City's completely free summer arts festival, June 14-25. The 2017 edition presents an array of performances and events exploring and celebrating diversity in all its forms-often blurring the lines between genres including dance, music, theater and the visual arts-over the course of 100+ performances and events spanning 17 projects at 31 unique sites across Lower Manhattan and Governors Island. The Festival also offers opportunities for audiences to interact with artists, socialize and experience multiple facets of artists' work and the creative process.

An ensemble of artists committed to exploring the rarely heard music of Louis Durey present six of his unpublished manuscripts, including four North American premieres, today, February 4 at 4:00 p.m. at La Maison Francaise at New York University as a prelude to a recording to be released this May by New Focus Records.

Grammy-Winning Roomful of Teeth to Perform at Swarthmore College

Roomful of Teeth, a GRAMMY-winning vocal project dedicated to mining the expressive potential of the human voice, will perform at Swarthmore College on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. in the Lang Music Building, Concert Hall. The event is free and open to the public, but reservations will be available starting February 1.  More information on making a reservation can be found at: http://bit.ly/2gGjJB4
