It was the most anticipated night of the year by high school theater programs across the state of Washington: The 16th Annual 5th Avenue Awards Honoring High School Musical Theater, proudly sponsored by Wells Fargo with additional support from Alaska Airlines. Presented at The 5th Avenue Theatre, nearly 2,000 teenagers, many in costumes representing their schools' musical theater productions, cheered for their peers as they performed musical excerpts and accepted awards honoring top student achievements in musical theater. The acclaimed event, directed this year by Kat Ramsburg, handed out awards in 21 categories ranging from Outstanding Overall Musical Production to Outstanding Lobby Display.

The Joyce Theater Foundation (Linda Shelton, Executive Director) is thrilled to present the return of its highly anticipated Ballet Festival, a two-week showcase of some of America's most exciting contemporary ballet companies and choreographers with Joyce commissions on each program. A soulful retelling of L. Frank Baum's beloved The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, The Wiz combines fairy-tale glamour with street smarts to make a classic fantasy sparkle for today. And our directors and choreographer will bring a blast of New Orleans Creole magic to this production! Winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Score, The Wiz ingeniously mixes rock, gospel, soul, and jazz, and features hits like 'Ease on Down the Road,' 'A Brand New Day,' and 'Home.'

Highlights For Children, Inc. is teaming up with kids' podcast leader, Tinkercast, to unveil a new podcast for kids titled, Highlights Hangout, on June 4. Highlights Hangout is the latest addition to the screen-alternative kids-podcast movement that comes just in time for summer road trip season. An exciting 20-25 minute Highlights Hangout episode will release on the first Monday of each month.

Colorful and imaginative costumes, other-worldly lighting and sound effects, and a scenic design that combines magic with urban details, serve as the playground for the Lyric Stage Company's production of the 1975 Tony Award-winning Best Musical, THE WIZ, under the direction of Dawn M. Simmons. Helping her translate her vision of Oz, by way of New Orleans, are Music Director Allyssa Jones, fronting a vibrant eight-piece orchestra, and Jean Appolon, whose inventive choreography anthropomorphizes a tornado, a poppy field, and the eponymous Yellow Brick Road.

'Disney Junior Dance Party On Tour' Presented by Pull-Ups(r) is extending its high-energy interactive tour, taking the immersive live concert experience designed for kids and families into some of the biggest markets in the US. With most of the initial dates sold out and second shows being added in multiple markets, the 90-minute concert that brings the beloved characters from the #1 preschool television network's hit series to life is adding 50 new shows starting in September. Out Front Theatre Company is closing out a spectacular second season with Del Shores' Sordid Lives. Hitting the stage May 3-20, the theater's rendition of the classic comedy will reflect the current times and bring a new spin to the show with an all African American cast portraying the Sordid Lives family members for the first time in the show's history!
