The Civilians, the award-winning New York-based theatre company, announces the members of its 2013-14 R & D Group. The group's emerging and established artists were selected from over one hundred applicants. The R & D Group is comprised of artists from multiple theatrical disciplines. Each artist or creative team will develop an original work over the season. The artists and projects were selected to represent a range of different strategies for making new work from creative inquiry and research. This diversity of approach helps feed a culture of innovation in the group, making the R & D Group an effective lab of experimentation for the field of investigative theater.
Although his career spans four decades, Clint Holmes is in the midst of a significant breakthrough. Having spent the last 20 years as one of Vegas's most successful entertainers, he has, over the last two years, in his 60s, achieved tremendous acclaim with solo shows in New York at the legendary Cafe Carlyle. Reviewing Holmes' tribute to Paul Simon and Cole Porter last year at the Cafe, Stephen Holden wrote in The New York Times that Holmes merged 'the excitement of Las Vegas and the sophistication of Manhattan' and further described Holmes as 'a brainy showman.' Holmes' 2011 Cafe Carlyle debut, Remembering Bobby Short, was equally beloved. He shifts the focus to his own remarkable life story with Stop This Train, returning to the venue trough October 12. Having Previously Paid Tribute to Paul Simon, Cole Porter and Bobby Short to Acclaim, Singer Traces Arc of His Own Singular Life with Mix of Interpretations and Originals
Las Vegas 'Entertainer of the Year' Clint Holmes opened his show at NYC's Café Carlyle last night, April 10. Michael Douglas, Chita Rivera and more were in the audience.
Missing the Presidential debate to attend the exciting and elegant opening of Clint's show at the Carlyle (JFK) brought this phrase to mind. 'I knew Bobby Short, Mr. Holmes (dramatic pause) and I'm sure that he was in the room last night, smiling, and just as overwhelmed and captivated by your talent as your star studded audience was.'
