Jonathan Larson's Rent is coming to downtown Nashville March 18-May 14 and producers are looking for the best singers in Music City USA to fill the show's colorful roles. Auditions are one-night only - Friday, February 18 - from 8 p.m.-midnight at the Printer's Alley venue, located in the former Boots Randolph Theatre (with parking available in the adjacent parking garage).

The Nashville Dinner Theatre in Printers Alley presents Neil Simon's classic American comedy, THE ODD COUPLE, starring Richard Moll of TV's Night Court, Patrick Kramer, Jaime Dudney (daughter of Barbara Mandrell and star of As the World Turns), Sandra Denise Baxter, Dennis Moser, Vance Nichols, Alex Lee and Jonathan Hayes. If Neil Simon were writing The Odd Couple in the 21st century, I suspect he'd write Oscar and Felix as gay men just coming out of the closet and make a lot of references about online dating, Twitter and Facebook, and the weekly poker game that is featured prominently during the onstage action would be - well, probably, it would still be a poker game (and to ensure that his characters sound hip, he would, of course, make some odd Sex and the City references, which would render it ridiculously un-hip).

'There are no small parts, only small actors,' goes the old theatrical saw that's tossed about willy-nilly to encourage budding thespians to take on roles they suspect might be beneath them and their lofty stature. But, of course, there's much truth to be found in the axiom and you will certainly see it brought to life in the efforts of the members of many acting ensembles, particularly those considered among the best in Nashville's 2010 theater season:

You really must give credit to Kaine Riggan: the man has recreated one of downtown Nashville's best-known nightspots into a beautifully appointed live theater venue, somehow doing a thriving business in an economy that, at best, may be described as 'dire.' Add to that noteworthy achievement the fact that his A Scattered, Smothered and Covered Christmas is a delightful holiday-season repast, a down-home good time that even the most cynical audience member can enjoy.
