Review - Teri Ralston Makes For Good 'Company'

Teri Ralston's Broadway career may only consist of small roles in two musicals but those two musicals, as they say on the Brooklyn side of Shubert Alley, were cherce. Her young soprano can be heard in scattered solo moments on the original Broadway cast albums of Company (as Jenny) and A Little Night Music (as Mrs. Nordstrom), but she's probably most known among musical theatre fans for her delicate and lovely performance of Stephen Schwartz's 'Chanson' in the original didn't-make-it-to-Broadway cast album of The Baker's Wife.

The Cardinal Group (D.H. Johnson & Richard Pepenella) presents 'Avow' by Bill C. Davis, Off Broadway at the 45th Street Theatre, 354 West 45 Street.
Previews begin Thursday, February 19, 2009 and the opening is Wednesday, February 25 at 8:00pm for the limited Off Broadway engagement which takes a timely and poignant look at contemporary religion's role in shaping social issues.
The cast for this warm, insightful and balanced meditation about who we are in relationship to the vows we make to the people and institutions in our lives includes Joy Franz, Elizabeth Bove, Jaron Farnham, Christopher Graham, Kate Middleton, Timothy Sekk and Jeremiah Wiggins. It is directed by Jerry Less and the set design is by Stephanie Tucci, costumes by Emily Lippolis, lighting design by Chris Weston. The production is supervised by Mr. Davis.

Conversely, the most redeeming element can be the friendship - indeed, the love -- that guys in war have for one another, as shown in James L. Larocca's stark drama of hope and despair, PENANG. The play begins performances on July 14th, during the opening night of the Ninth Annual Midtown International Theatre Festival. Directed by Donya K. Washington and co-produced by Dana Monagan, PENANG will be performed at the WorkShop Theater's MainStage space, located at 312 West 36th Street.
'Just a Rumor' Gets Staged Reading

Just a Rumor, by Gary Lyons and Doug DeVita, will get a rehearsed reading. The new play explores the nature of love, celebrity, gossip, truth, and how to get a dead movie star out of the kitchen. The cast includes Patricia Hodge, Stephanie Cole, Chris Biggins, Jenny Logan and Richard Cunningham. It is directed by Lyons. Stage directions will be read by Liza Keast.

Monsters, a new musical, will be featured at an industry reading on Monday, February 18 as devlopment of the show continues. Book and lyrics are by Boston playwright Gail Phaneuf, and music and lyrics are by composer Ernie Lijoi of New Jersey. Featured in the reading cast are Cady Huffman, Ann Harada, Nicolette Hart, Kate Pazakis, Joy Franz and Carlos Encinias.
