Light Opera Works' 2015 season will open with THE FANTASTICKS with expanded full orchestra (June 6-14), followed by SOUTH PACIFIC (August 15-30), HOLLYWOOD'S GREATEST SONG HITS (October 2-11), and GUYS AND DOLLS (December 26-January 3).

Drama Desk Award winning playwright J.E. Franklin will present her new book of plays To Break Every Yoke with a staged production starring actress Vinie Burrows on Sunday October 5, from 2pm-4pm at the Castillo Theatre located at 543 W 42nd Street.

Westchester Broadway Theatre presents SOUTH PACIFIC, with Music by Richard Rodgers, Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and Book by Oscar Hammerstein II and Joshua Logan. Karen Carpenter, a producer, director and teacher, a theater-maker for more than 30 years, has been appointed the interim Artistic Director of the William Inge Center for the Arts and the 34th Annual William Inge Theatre Festival. The Inge Festival is the Official Theater Festival of the State of Kansas, hosted on the campus of Independence Community College, which houses the William Inge archives.

The Performing Arts Department Theatre program has announced its Fall 2014 Harry Hope Theatre season of shows whichwill take the characters and the audiences on journeys through time to distant shores. First up, On The Verge, or the Geography of Yearning by Eric Overmyer will be directed by F. The Tony Award winning 1949 musical South Pacific comes to the Off Center Theatre in Kansas City, Mo. from August 7 through August 24. This enduring love story is set on a tropical island during World War II. Richard Rodgers wrote the music with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, and the book by Oscar Hammerstein II and Joshua Logan. Sarah Crawford directs the Musical Theatre Heritage production and provides musical direction with Jeremy Watson.

Today we are looking at a phenomenal and fascinating interview clip recorded way back in 1958 featuring one of the major shapers of the modern musical, Oscar Hammerstein.

Asolo Rep's 2014-2015 season Historic Asolo Theater production will be Pulitzer and Greenfield Prize winning playwright Nilo Cruz's lyrical new play, Sotto Voce. This exquisitely observed metaphysical romance will be co-directed by Asolo Rep's Producing Artistic Director Michael Donald Edwards and playwright Nilo Cruz, who crafted the Spanish translation for Hamlet, Prince of Cuba at Asolo Rep in 2012. Sotto Voce, which had its world premiere at the Theater for the New City in February 2014, opens Thursday, April 2, 2015 in the Historic Asolo Theater and runs through Sunday, April 26, with previews on Tuesday, March 31 andWednesday, April 1. The title of this celebrated new work is an Italian musical term that means to speak in a soft manner with purpose.

Rodgers and Hammerstein's classic musical SOUTH PACIFIC (book by Hammerstein and Joshua Logan) is currently playing at Drayton Entertainment's Huron Country Playhouse in Grand Bend, Ontario, under the direction (and choreography) of MICHAEL LICHTEFELD and it is an absolute delight!

The New Voices for the Theater playwriting competition will celebrate its 25th year in Richmond June 14-29, 2014. Working closely with Playwright-in-Residence Johnna Adams and professional theater artists, high school student playwrights from across the Commonwealth bring their original one-act plays to life on the stage at the Festival of New Works, held June 27-28, 2014 at Shafer St. Playhouse at VCU (221 N. Shafer St). 150 plays were submitted this year and eight resident winners were chosen in April.
