Though summer is just around the corner, we are looking ahead in anticipation to the start of Carnegie Hall's 2013-2014 season this fall. Listed below are jazz, pop, folk, and world music highlights at Carnegie Hall, beginning with our Opening Night Gala concert on October 2, which features jazz artistEsperanza Spalding as special guest soloist with The Philadelphia Orchestra.

The Recording Academy Honors 2013 will feature GRAMMY-winners Michael Bolton, Kristian Bush and David Caddick, GRAMMY-nominee Joan Osborne, stage and screen stars Aaron Tveit, Samantha Barks and Stephanie J. Block, American Idol Music Director Ray Chew, singer-songwriters Peter Cincotti and Frankie Moreno, Island Def Jam Music Group President Steve Bartels, IMG Founder Charles Hamlen, and entertainment and media entrepreneur Kevin Liles. The star studded gala will celebrate honorees Ashford & Simpson, GRAMMY-winning violinist Joshua Bell, GRAMMY-winning artist Melissa Etheridge, GRAMMY-winning creators of 'Les Miserables' - Alain Boublil, Herbert Kretzmer and Claude-Michel Schonberg - and R&B singer/songwriter Trey Songz. The Recording Academy Honors was established to celebrate outstanding individuals whose work embodies excellence and integrity and who have improved the environment for the creative community. The event, which will attract recording artists, key entertainment executives and community leaders, will be hosted Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at 6 p.m. at 583 Park Avenue. This gala will support the Chapter's ongoing advocacy, education and professional development programs.

Beginning Sunday, June 30, 120 of the country's finest young musicians, ages 16-19, come together for the inaugural residency and tour of the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America, a new annual tuition-free program created by Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute. NYO-USA's 2013 summer schedule includes five concerts in the US and abroad from July 11 to 21, with performances in Purchase, NY; Washington, DC; Moscow and St. Petersburg in Russia; and London, England.

The Metropolitan Opera and SummerStage continue their long-time collaboration to present some of The Met's finest young singers in showcase recitals taking place across New York City.

The international megastar pianist Lang Lang will give a special one-night only concert, hosted by Emmy, Golden Globe and SAG Award-winning entertainer Alec Baldwin, at Carnegie Hall in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage tonight, June 3 at 6:30PM. Lang Lang and Friends in Concert, rescheduled from its original date because of Hurricane Sandy, will benefit The Lang Lang International Music Foundation. Presented by CAMI Music, the event will feature Grammy Award-winning violinist Joshua Bell, Grammy Award-winning soprano Renee Fleming, nine-time Grammy Award winning recording artist John Legend, and Danish singer-songwriter Oh Land in special guest appearances.

The Recording Academy - New York Chapter is set to pay tribute to Valerie Simpson of the songwriting/performing duo Ashford & Simpson, GRAMMY-winning violinist Joshua Bell, GRAMMY-winning recording artist Melissa Etheridge, GRAMMY-winning creators of 'Les Miserables' - Alain Boublil, Herbert Kretzmer and Claude-Michel Schonberg - and multi-platinum R&B singer/songwriter Trey Songz on June 25.

The National YoungArts Foundation (YoungArts), a non-profit that recognizes and supports the nation's most talented young artists in the visual, literary, and performing arts, has announced that its 2014 application will be available online at http://www.youngarts.org/apply from May 31, 2013 through October 18, 2013. This year, students with an interest in architecture and design are also encouraged to apply for the inaugural YoungArts Design Arts program.

For Rhapsody in Blue (June 1 & 2), one of the most popular American concert works, conductor Bramwell Tovey will take to the piano to play Gershwin's beloved jazz-infused Piano Concerto. Before leading the orchestra in Elgar's Enigma Variations- a series of charming musical sketches about the composer's closest friends -Tovey, an eloquent host, will share some of the unsolved mysteries of the work's "secret" contents. The June 2nd performance is at the George Weston Recital Hall, Toronto Centre for the Arts and also features Bernstein's "Overture" to Candide.

Over the weekend Alan Gilbert and the New York Philharmonic performed in Istanbul, Turkey. The Orchestra's first appearance there in 18 years also offered an opportunity to catch some of the colorful capital's local flavor. Then the New York Philharmonic Principal Brass Quintet launched the return to Zurich - home of Credit Suisse, the Orchestra's Global Sponsor - with a free performance. Sony Masterworks releases Gloria Estefan's The Standards on September 10, 2013. Celebrating great tunes from the American Songbook, The Standards reaches out to Estefan's global fan base via international song classics sung in English, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and French, some with new lyrics written by Estefan herself. The album also features collaborations with world class, award-winning artists like singer songwriter Laura Pausini, violinist Joshua Bell and saxophonist Dave Koz.
