Magnolia Pictures Acquires BIG STAR: NOTHING CAN HURT ME

The Wagner/Cuban Company's Magnolia Pictures announced today that they have acquired North American rights to BIG STAR: NOTHING CAN HURT ME, the definitive documentary about the beloved and influential 70s rock band Big Star. Directed by Drew DeNicola and Oliva Mori, the film was produced by Mori and Danielle McCarthy, executive-produced by John Fry, founder of Ardent Studios, with Gill Holland and David Armillei, and co-produced by Brian Sprouse.
SundanceNow, IFC Midnight Pick Up Rights to MY AMITYVILLE HORROR Doc

SundanceNOW and IFC Midnight announced today that the companies are jointly acquiring all U.S. rights to director Eric Walter's documentary MY AMITYVILLE HORROR. SundanceNOW will handle the film for its subscriber video-on-demand (SVOD) initiative Doc Club, while IFC Midnight will manage all other platforms, including theatrical and VOD release. The film, which was produced by Walter, Andrea Adams, and John R. Blythe and executive produced by Ronald Puleio and Michael S. Russo, made its world premiere at Fantasia International Film Festival in July and its U.S. premiere at Fantastic Fest in September. On November 10th it will have its New York premiere at the DOC NYC Festival.
Cinedigm Acquires Digital Rights for LOVE MARILYN

Submarine Entertainment announced today that it has sold US DVD/Digital/VOD rights to Cinedigm Entertainment Group to Oscar Nominated Director Liz Garbus's feature documentary film LOVE MARILYN. Submarine previously sold US TV rights to HBO Documentary Films at the Toronto Film Festival and has also sold all Canadian rights to Mongrel Media and Airline Rights to Jaguar Distribution.

Tribeca Film Acquires North American Rights to THE COMEDY

Tribeca Film announced today that it has acquired all North American rights to THE COMEDY, director Rick Alverson's provocative character study, which is already one of the most talked about films since it bowed at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. The film also played South by Southwest and is set for BAMcinemaFEST this June, it will be released in October 2012. Jagjaguwar, the prominent independent music label known for artists such as Bon Iver and Sharon Van Etten, produced THE COMEDY in conjunction with Greyshack Films and Larry Fessenden's Glass Eye Pix, along with Mike S. Ryan and Brent Kunkle producing. Rough House Pictures, the Production Company of Danny McBride, David Gordon Green, Jody Hill, and Matt Reilly attached themselves to the film during Sundance.

HBO has partnered with Roadside Attractions for U.S. theatrical and DVD rights to PROJECT NIM, the 2011 Sundance Film Festival opener in the World Cinema Documentary Competition, it was announced today by Sheila Nevins, president, HBO Documentary Films and Howard Cohen, co-president, Roadside Attractions.
