DEAD MAN WALKING The Opera By Jake Heggie and Terrence McNally Will Open at the Lyric Opera of Chicago This Month

Dead Man Walking, the powerful opera by composer Jake Heggie and librettist-playwright Terrence McNally, will have its long-awaited Lyric premiere this month. There will be six performances Nov. 2-22 at the Lyric Opera House, 20 N. Wacker Dr., Chicago. Tickets start at $39 and are available at lyricopera.org/dmw or by calling 312-827-5600.

Philadelphia Youth Orchestra To Accompany Lisa Fischer And Grand Baton

The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra will accompany veteran singer Lisa Fischer and her band, Grand Baton, in a spectacular performance in Verizon Hall at The Kimmel Center of Performing Arts on November 1, at 8 p.m. PYO's 130 members, between the ages of 14 and 21, will support Fischer's dynamic range of rock, soul, classical and other influences. Josephine Lee, President & Artistic Director for the Chicago Children's Choir, will be conducting the orchestra.

Ravinia Announces Casting For Leonard Bernstein's MASS

Ravinia Festival has announced casting for its July 28 production of Leonard Bernstein'sMass. Conductor Marin Alsop has resurrected this overlooked work with performances around the world. This production reunites her with director Kevin Newbury (who recently won raves for directing the opera Fellow Travelers and the spectaculars as New York's Park Avenue Armory) after earning a Grammy nomination for their recording of Mass, which the New York Times praised as 'one of the best events of the year.'
