It’s funny, it’s warm, and you walk away feeling as if you saw a community revealed.

The play touches on a lot of things, obviously immigration, but the title, REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES, it's also, all of these women are either fat, or just not thin, or not this conventional, small-bodied woman, right?

The ability to tell our stories and share of ourselves, with a community that is eager to reach out, is a superpower we all have.  We are, truly, indivisible; and we should take advantage of every chance we have to break bread, share our stories, and broaden our horizons. The Contemporary American Theater Festival has been one of West Virginia’s perennial treasures, and is well deserving of our support.  Be sure to plan your Summer around everything CATF has to offer!

This week, the Real Women Have Curves cast and creative team kicked off rehearsals. Real Women Have Curves is set to begin performances on April 1 at the James Earl Jones Theatre, ahead of an opening night on April 27. Check out rehearsal photos here!

CASA 0101 Theater will perform the World Premiere production of Founding Artistic Director, JOSEFINA LOPEZ’S QUEEN OF THE RUMBA, A Play With Dance, directed by Corky Dominguez starring actresses, Paloma Morales (as Alicia Parlá) and Angel Juarez (Young Alicia Parlá), in the titular character of the play.

Coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the Black and Latino Playwrights Celebration (BLPC), Artistic Director Eugene Lee will perform August Wilson’s How I Learned What I Learned, Sept. 8-23, in support of the newly established endowment fund.

Barry and Fran Weissler are adapting the acclaimed 2002 independent film Real Women Have Curves into a musical. Sergio Trujillo has been tapped to direct, with Lisa Loomer writing the book and Grammy-winning dup Jesse & Joy writing the score, likely making it the first Broadway musical with a Latine director, bookwriter, lyricist, and composer.

2022 SEASON ANNOUNCED at Powerstories Theatre. After twenty months of having closed doors and a dark stage, Powerstories is back with an exciting season! The 2022 Season features two dramedies, a drama, and two hybrid in-theatre, online theatre festivals.

SB 805, entitled, “Save The Performing Arts Act of 2021,” is the first bill in the nation that will create a critical funding infrastructure to help assist Small Nonprofit Performing Arts Companies (SNPAC) with average adjusted gross revenues equal to, or less than $1.4 million, to be adjusted every five years based on the California Consumer Price Index.

Haven Theatre presents its fourth DIRECTORS HAVEN, the company's ever-growing initiative annually showcasing the talents of three rising directors. This season, Charlotte Drover directs Madame Rachilde's surreal horror ballet THE CRYSTAL SPIDER, with translation by Daniel Gerould; Airos Sung-En Medill helms Josefina Lopez' heartfelt and healing SIMPLY MARIA, OR THE AMERICAN DREAM; and Dani Wieder directs an imaginative take on William Inge's drama PEOPLE IN THE WIND. The three productions, which will have the support of a full production team, will run back-to-back in one program. DIRECTOR'S HAVEN 2018 will play October 15 - 31, 2018 at Haven Theatre's resident home, The Den Theatre (2A), 1331 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood.
