Theatre Now has annouced the November 1st release of The 10-Minute Musical, an Anthology from the SOUND BITES Festival. The first ever anthology of 10-minute musicals, the book features 25 complete musicals and is a resource for educators, producers, theatre enthusiasts, and anyone interested in the musical theatre form. Theatre Now New York presents a?oeBehind the Lab,a?? a biweekly web series spotlighting the songs and the songwriting process of Theatre Now Writers Lab members. The series, which begins Wednesday August 19th, will feature new music, interviews with the artists, and general discussion on how creativity can continue to flourish in uncertain times.

Theatre Now New York presented its 4th Annual festival of new musicals, Sound Bites 4.0 (sponsored by Music Theatre International and Disney Theatrical Productions) to a sold-out house at the Perishing Square Signature Theatre. An after-party was held in the theatre lobby where awards were given. Sound Bites showcases ten 10-minute musicals or musical excerpts in one evening.

The YALE INSTITUTE FOR MUSIC THEATRE (Mark Brokaw, Artistic Director) has selected two original book musicals to be developed in an intensive lab setting in New Haven, June 13-28: gilgamesh & the mosquito, music by Bob Kelly and book and lyrics by Sam Chanse; and Horizons, music by Ben Wexler and book and lyrics by Mark Sonnenblick. The Institute culminates with open rehearsal readings of each project, presented as a part of the International Festival of Arts & Ideas, on June 26 and 27.

In what has become an annual ritual, a total of 46 established and emerging writers, composers and lyricists will converge on the Goodspeed campus later this month to participate in the Johnny Mercer Foundation Writers Colony at Goodspeed Musicals. The writing teams, representing 25 new musicals, will populate the campus, creating a truly exciting environment for discovery and inspiration.
