Weber, Cake & Madeley Join Broderick in 'THE PHILANTHROPIST'

Steven Weber, Jonathan Cake have joined Matthew Broderick in the Roundabout Theater Company revival of 'The Philanthropist.' Weber will play a friend of the leading character portrayed by Broderick in Christopher Hampton's 1970 take on 'The Misanthrope,' while Cake will play a writer. Anna Madeley is the female lead, reprising a role she played in the 2005 staging of the play at the Donmar Warehouse. Tate Ellington, Jennifer Mudge and Samantha Soule complete the rest of the casting. Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director) will present Tony? Award winner Matthew Broderick as 'Philip' in a new Broadway production of The Philanthropist by Tony? and Academy Award winner Christopher Hampton, directed by David Grindley.

On Wednesday June 11, 2008 the Theatre World Awards for Outstanding Broadway or Off-Broadway Debut performances during the 2007-2008 theatrical season took place. The awards were presented by former Theatre World Award winners, including: Alec Baldwin (Loot, 1986), Griffin Dunne (Search and Destroy, 1992), Alexander Gemignani (Assassins, 2004), Andrea Martin (My Favorite Year, 1993), Lin-Manuel Miranda (In the Heights, 2007), Rosie Perez (References to Salvador Dali Make Me Hot, 2001), and B.D. Wong (M. Butterfly, 1988). There were also be performances by former Theatre World Award winners, including: Karen Akers (Nine, 1982), Cheyenne Jackson (All Shook Up, 2005), Carol Lawrence (West Side Story, 1958) and Alice Playten (Henry, Sweet Henry, 1968).

Tonight, March 20th, 2008 Almost An Evening will begin previews at the Bleecker Street Theatre. Direct from its sold-out run at the Atlantic Theater Company, Ethan Coen's series of three one act plays unsuccessfully tackle important questions Almost An Evening, directed by Atlantic artistic director Neil Pepe, sold out before previews began on January 9, opened on January 22, and played a limited engagement through February 10, 2008 Off-Broadway at Atlantic Stage 2 (330 West 16th Street). The Off-Broadway transfer of Almost An Evening will be produced by Atlantic Theater Company (Neil Pepe, Artistic Director; Andrew D. Hamingson, Managing Director) and Art Meets Commerce (Chip Meyrelles, Executive Director; Ken Greiner, Producing Director). The Atlantic Stage 2 engagement of Almost An Evening featured Academy Award winner F. Murray Abraham, Jonathan Cake, J.R. Horne, Jordan Lage, Mark Linn-Baker, Elizabeth Marvel, Mary McCann, Del Pentecost and Joey Slotnick.
