Dance Against Cancer raised more than $200,000 for the American Cancer Society on Monday, May 5, 2014. Proceeds from the evening will benefit research initiatives and patient and family service programs. More than 500 guests attended the fourth annual Dance Against Cancer. VIP guests enjoyed cocktails, preferred seating, and a gift bag in addition to the performance and post-event reception. The performance featured new work by Brian Reeder created for American Ballet Theatre's Isabella Boylston with New York City Ballet's Chase Finlay and Amar Ramasar, Paul Taylor Dance Company in its first appearance at the benefit, Charles 'Lil Buck' Riley performed with students from National Dance Institute, and included the NYC premiere of Justin Peck's Sea Change. To commemorate 60 years of groundbreaking modern dance by a living legend, Paul Taylor has invited his alumni dancers to revive one his most profound works, From Sea to Shining Sea, at a special added performance on Sunday, March 23rd at 6:00 p.m. as part of the Paul Taylor Dance Company's three-week Season at Lincoln Center. Forty-six dancers have accepted Mr. Taylor's invitation to join members from the current Company.

The Barbican today announced a stellar program of events for spring and summer 2014, pushing the boundaries of all major art forms for its diverse audiences. This new program builds on the most successful year ever for the Barbican, with attendances for events at the Centre exceeding 1 million for the first time, an increase of 36% on 2011/12. In this Olympics year, box office receipts also rose 33%, and the Barbican's commercial income increased by 35%.

Ren? Pape has withdrawn from the Met's 125th Anniversary Gala on Sunday, March 15, due to illness. The resulting program changes are: John Tomlinson will sing the Death Scene from Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov, replacing Pape. James Morris will sing Wotan in the final scene of Wagner's Das Rheingold, replacing Pape.

Bloomberg News reports that in December 2005, New York City Center theater set up planning a roughly $300 million renovation project, after soliciting ideas from the Paul Taylor Dance Foundation and other resident companies. 'They said, ?dream out loud,' and we did,' said John Tomlinson, general manager of Paul Taylor. City Center says the top-to-bottom makeover eventually will proceed, even though six members of its 32-person board of directors invested with Bernard L. Madoff, who is alleged to have run a $50 billion Ponzi scheme. The six donated at least $260,000 to City Center last year, according to a program of the musical revival series 'Encores!'
