Photo Flash: First Look- John Stevens Stars in A CHRISTMAS CAROL at Theatre Southwest

Theatre Southwest presents John Stevens in Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, Dec. 19-24. Charles Dickens loved the theater. He couldn't get enough of the stage. This love of the theatre was most fulfilled when he toured the country performing readings of his work. His most popular reading was always 'his ghostly little book,' A Christmas Carol In this tradition John Stevens has adapted and stars at Theatre Southwest in his own one-man version of Dickens's most beloved tale. BWW Reviews: Theatre Southwest's HOW THE OTHER HALF LOVES is Delightful, Light Comedy

Prodigious playwright Alan Ayckbourn has been acclaimed for his craft many times during his lengthy career. Currently, Theatre Southwest is presenting his first really successful play HOW THE OTHER HALF LOVES. The 6 person comedy first debuted in 1969 at The Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough, England. It went on to find success in London's West End, opening on August 5, 1970, and on Broadway, opening on March 29, 1971. The production at Theatre Southwest exemplifies why the sidesplitting comedy was so well received.

Maya Lin's 'The Meeting Room' Opens in Newport, RI

'The Meeting Room,' an installation by world–renowned artist and architect Maya Lin, was dedicated and opened to the public today in Newport's Queen Anne Square. The Doris Duke Monument Foundation (DDMF), an offshoot of the Newport Restoration Foundation (NRF), presented the installation and revitalized park to the City of Newport as a gift in honor of the memory of philanthropist Doris Duke. Duke championed Newport's historic preservation and left an enduring legacy of historic architecture. The installation also honors the effect of historic preservation as a catalyst for community revitalization.

BWW Reviews: Theatre Southwest's DRACULA is Resplendently Gothic and Inspired

Dracula is a name that invokes fear and terror in me. Not because it is a horror story, but because just about every adaptation of Bram Stoker's legendary Gothic novel gets it so wrong that I am left completely cold and empty. Astonishingly, this is not the case with Theatre Southwest's brilliant and opulent production of DRACULA, written by Steven Dietz and directed by Ananka Kohnitz.

BWW Reviews: TSW's THE NIGHT OF THE IGUANA is Absorbing and Suspenseful

Theatre Southwest is currently producing a fascinating production of Tennessee William's thrilling and tense THE NIGHT OF THE IGUANA. The 1961 drama is set at The Costa Verde Hotel in Puerto Barrio on the West Coast of Mexico in the summer of 1940. The Reverend T. Lawrence Shannon is leading a tour group of Baptist women from Texas through Mexico, but makes an unplanned stop at the hotel, which is owned and operated by his friend, Maxine Falk. Over the course of the afternoon and evening, Shannon slowly unravels, exposing his secrets and sins. An impoverished and entirely broke New England spinster, Hannah Jelkes, and her aging grandfather, a poet losing his mind, arrive at the hotel as well. Without any money, the duo hopes to lodge at the hotel with the promise to earn some money and pay upon checkout.

BWW Review: Cute & Charming DIXIE SWIM CLUB is Bubbly Fun

Comedies about Southern women talking are a dime a dozen. Most audiences cling to Robert Harling's STEEL MAGNOLIAS, imbued with healthy doses of both comedy and drama, as the quintessential Southern women play. However, Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten's DIXIE SWIM CLUB may start giving Robert Harling some competition.

BWW Reviews: I'M NOT RAPPAPORT Contains Few Laughs and Uneven Pacing

I've been writing for Houston's BroadwayWorld page for a brief 8 ½ months now, and one thing that I quickly learned and came to love about Houston is that there is always a wide selection of venues and titles to choose from. This past Saturday, I ventured from my residence in a Southeast suburb of the city to Playhouse 1960 for the very first time to see their production of I'M NOT RAPPAPORT. The aesthetically well-designed and beautiful performance space is nestled near FM 1960 and US 290, and the company provides audiences with a production of the Tony Award-winning comedy that leaves audiences with plenty to talk about it.
