American Brass Quintet Adds Two New Members

The American Brass Quintet (ABQ), internationally recognized as one of today's premier chamber music ensembles, has announced the arrival of two new members: trumpeter Brandon Ridenour and trombonist Hillary Simms.

Newton’s New Philharmonia Orchestra (New Phil) continues the 27th season of “Music for All” with New Phil Reawakened - Sights & Sounds on Sunday, March 27th at 3 p.m. The program will celebrate the sights, sounds and tastes of Italy and Latin America. Led by Principal Conductor Jorge Soto and featuring Venezuelan trombonist Angel Subero, the performance will include works by Mendelssohn, William Grant Still, and Astor Piazzolla. To enhance the Latin American experience, the New Phil will be providing guests with a special treat from Che! Empanada in Newtonville to take home following the concert.

The Greenwich Village Orchestra (GVO) continues its 2018-2019 season with Orchestral Brilliance, led by Music Director Barbara Yahr, on Sunday, April 7, 2019 at 3:00pm at All Saints Church. The program features New York Philharmonic bass trombonist George Curran as soloist in Chris Brubeck's Prague Concerto; Richard Strauss's lush, romantic Suite from Der Rosenkavalier; and Debussy's impressionistic Nocturnes led by Assistant Conductor Eric Mahl.

St. Luke's Subway Series to Bring Brass Music to Various NYC Venues this Month

Over one week in late September, brass quintet music-from courtly dances to ragtime tunes-will ring out from scenic gardens and overlooks throughout the five boroughs. For a fourth year, the annual St. Luke's Subway Series will bring free concerts across New York City while collecting food donations for City Harvest. This year's program, Brass Gardens, will be performed exclusively in outdoor venues, allowing the music to mix with nature, and offering audiences a relaxed and unique concert experience.
