The New School Welcomes Doug Hughes for Spring Semester

The New School for Drama has announced that the award-winning director Doug Hughes will be teaching this spring semester. Working with professionals, like Hughes in the New York theater world is a cornerstone of Drama students' experience at The New School. In the intimate setting of the classroom, Hughes will be teaching Directing Chekov and Beckett to second-year students earning an MFA in directing.

Beginning February 4th, the Purchase Repertory Theatre of SUNY will present an evening of short plays and scenes by the Pulitzer-winning John Patrick Shanley at the Emelin Thetare in Mamaroneck. Shanley is perhaps best known as the author of Doubt and the Oscar-winning screenwriter of Moonstruck. These pieces, like his characters, are funny, romantic, brutal, full of longing and haunted by demons all at the same time.

Two-time Emmy Award-winning comedy writer Rachel Axler will make her off Broadway playwriting debut at the NEA-rejected Women's Project with Smudge, a dark comedy directed by Pam MacKinnon about the changing face of the American family and the limits of love and cheesecake. Smudge features Cassie Beck, Greg Keller and Brian Sgambati.
