Berkshire Actors Theatre, a new theatre company founded by local actors and directors, is the latest organization to join the thriving arts scene in Western Massachusetts.

On her debut CD, ‘The Dimming of the Day,' acclaimed singer/actress Anastasia Barzee reimagines an eclectic range of Broadway, pop and jazz-infused songs, and showcases a diverse array of her favorite contemporary artists including Paul Simon, Rufus Wainwright, Randy Newman, Kate Bush, Andrew Lloyd Webber and many more.

FIRE BURNING RAIN, a multi-media rock opera was created by internationally renowned artist/composer Jihae in collaboration with two time Academy Award winning playwright/director John Patrick Shanley, is set to play Highline Ballroom September 8. THe show will begin at 9PM; doors open at 7PM.

Montana Repertory Theatre specializes in the great stories of our world. Often they are classic American dramas like Death of a Salesman or A Streetcar Named Desire. DANNY AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA is an early piece by playwright John Patrick Shanley, but you wouldn't know it, since it's filled with the same kind of crackling dialogue and troubled characters that populate most of his work. I was reminded more than once of Harold Arlen and Ted Koehler's classic composition 'Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea', not just because of the obvious similarities between the titles, but due to Koehler's lyrics like: 'I don't want you/but I hate to lose you' and 'I want to cross you off my list/but when you come knocking at my door/fate seems to give my heart a twist/and I come running back for more'. Those words really seem to fit this pair of damaged individuals who are searching for something positive in their lives, despite their inability to connect with anyone, at least until they meet up with one another. The NonProphet Theatre Company's presentation is a real stunner, powered by two great performances that make it must-see viewing.

The result of a unique collaboration between New York Stage and Film and Vassar College, the program consists of an eight-week residency on the Vassar campus (124 Raymond Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY) during which more than 200 professional artists and some 40 apprentices live and work together to create new theater works. The 2011 Main Stage season kicks off with Patricia Wettig's F2M (June 29 - July 10).

The Private Theatre's Summer Scene Intensive consists of 6 rigorous weeks of class. It is designed to work through three genres of scene study: Classical (Shakespeare, 15th Century drama, etc.), 19th & 20th Century (Chekhov, Ibsen, Shaw, etc.), and Contemporary scenes. Everyone will work during every class and it is expected that everyone rehearse outside of class. The final class will be open to the public.
