The Wallis Center for the Performing Arts Presents: ARTS AND IDEAS: CONVERSATIONS AT THE WALLIS

The Wallis Center for the Performing Arts (aka "The Wallis") and Writers Bloc, Los Angeles' acclaimed reading and conversation series founded by Emmy-nominated Andrea Grossman, are partnering to present Leon Panetta in Conversation with Jessica Yellin (Wednesday, October 15 at 7:30pm), and Dick Cavett in Conversation with Paula Poundstone (Thursday, November 6 at 7:30pm). The events are part of The Wallis' ongoing new series, "Arts & Ideas: Conversations at The Wallis," and will be held in the Bram Goldsmith Theater.

FACE THE NATION posted a 2.0/06 with 2.84m viewers and 0.7/03 in adults 25-54, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for July 20. FACE THE NATION tied for first in adults 25-54 among the Sunday morning public affairs programs. Compared to the same day last year, FACE THE NATION was up +12% in viewers (from 2.55m) and +40% in adults 25-54 (from 0.5/03).

Angelina Jolie Named 'Honorary Dame' for Humanitarian Work by Queen Elizabeth

On Friday, Queen Elizabeth dubbed Angelina Jolie an honorary dame for her humanitarian work. Jolie has spent most of her adult life helping those less fortunate and has served as a special envoy for the United Nations for many years. According NY Daily News, she received this honor her work combating sexual violence in war zones.

The Nuclear Non-Proliferation Act and the Anti-Apartheid Sanctions Act are just two of the landmark laws Warburg was instrumental in helping craft and enact. Warburg started his D.C. political career at 21 as a lowly intern for U.S. Senator John Tunney (D-CA) in 1975. He ended it as a precinct organizer, helping turn out the vote in key Virginia counties for Barack Obama's 2008 presidential bid. Along the way, he was deeply involved in U.S. policymaking on such issues as Soviet nuclear arms control, Israel aid, and human rights. He spent years working on the Senate floor as the defense, intelligence and foreign policy advisor to Majority Whip Alan Cranston, the California Democrat. Today, he is Professor of Public Policy and Assistant Dean at University of Virginia's Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy.

BWW Reviews: Theater J's YELLOW FACE is Entertaining and Thought-Provoking

YELLOW FACE, appearing at Theater J, is a serio-comedy by David Henry Hwang, based on his involvement in the casting controversy in 1990 regarding Cameron Mackintosh's insistence on having a white actor play a non-white role. The excellent production is well worth seeing.

John Lloyd Young Appointed to President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities

President Barack Obama appointed seven new members of the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities. They will join 30 other private members appointed by the President and twelve federal representatives, whose agencies have cultural programs such as the National Endowments for the Arts and the Humanities, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, U.S. Department of Education, the Smithsonian Institution, the Library of Congress, the National Gallery of Art and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. A swearing-in ceremony will be held at the Supreme Court with Justice Kagan presiding.
