COOPERSTOWN, N.Y.  – The Glimmerglass Festival opened its third production of the 2015 season with Vivaldi's setting of Metastasio's poetic depiction of Cato the Younger.

LA Opera is collaborating with Classical KUSC 91.5fm to produce the ninth consecutive season of LA Opera On Air, a weekly broadcast series of LA Opera performances recorded live at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Beginning with Verdi's La Traviata, starring Nino Machaidze and Plácido Domingo at 10am on Saturday, May 16, 2015, the weekly series hosted by KUSC's Duff Murphy will feature five performances from LA Opera's 2014/15 season and a special encore broadcast of Jules Massenet's Thaïs from the 2013/14 season. The series will be broadcast locally on Classical KUSC 91.5fm, its repeater stations (see below) and also streamed live online at KUSC.org.

Excerpts from Paradise Interrupted, a new installation opera by artist Jennifer Wen Ma and composer Huang Ruo, will be performed in The Metropolitan Museum of Art's The Temple of Dendur in The Sackler Wing today, March 21. The Met Museum Presents performances offer a special preview of this work in progress before the world premiere at the 2015 Spoleto Festival USA in May. There will be two Metropolitan Museum performances at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Tickets start at $54 and are available online atmetmuseum.org/tickets or by phone (212) 570-3949. Tickets include Museum admission and are part of the Museum's 'Bring the Kids for $1' program.

The voice of the people sang and spoke out last night in Jazz at Lincoln Center's Rose Theater, Appel Room and Ertegun Atrium. Many of the world's finest musicians, and many of the finest citizens of NYC assembled to celebrate an effort to return 'The People's Opera' to New York. They did so in a Gala Concert and Dinner to honor the life of the late Maestro Julius Rudel, who was the Opera's General Director and Principal Conductor from 1957 to 1979.

John will sing 'Va Tacito: from Giulio Cesare by George Handel. On stage, John will be joining legendary and celebrated artists such as Placido Domingo, Sting, Frederica Von Stade, James Morris, Christine Goerke and Mark Delevan.

LA Opera's production of Henry Purcell's Dido and Aeneas and Bela Bartok's Bluebeard's Castle, two riveting stagings of two disparate operas written more than two centuries apart that come together in a unique double bill, running for six performances from today, October 25 through November 15, 2014.

From the iconic Three Tenors to the Three Mo' Tenors who made a name for themselves in classical circles throughout the 90s, we fast forward to October 2014 where LA Opera presents a historic first! Meet The Three Countertenors - John Holiday, Darryl Taylor and G. Thomas Allen - three gifted African-American countertenors making their LA Opera debuts in Henry Purcell's Dido and Aeneas. To our knowledge, never before have three black countertenors been in one production together on an opera stage.

Last night, after a week of competition that brought 40 young singers from 17 nations to Los Angeles, Placido Domingo announced that Rachel Willis-Sorensen, an American soprano, and Mario Chang, a Guatemalan tenor, took the top prizes tonight in the 22nd edition of Operalia, the World Opera Competition. Hosted by LA Opera at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, the weeklong contest culminated tonight in a Gala Finals Concert-featuring the LA Opera Orchestra conducted by Mr. Domingo at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion-which was streamed live on Medici TV.

The Glimmerglass Festival has announced its 2015 Festival, which will celebrate the company's 40th anniversary. The 2015 Festival will feature Mozart's The Magic Flute, Verdi's Macbeth, Vivaldi's Cato in Utica and Bernstein's Candide. The productions will run in repertory in the Alice Busch Opera Theater on Otsego Lake in Cooperstown July 10 through August 23. These mainstage offerings will be complemented by lectures, concerts and other special events.
