PICT Theatre Presents the Pittsburgh Premiere of A SKULL IN CONNEMARA by Irish playwright Martin McDonagh, 9/12-28

PICT Theatre's fifth production of the season is the Pittsburgh premiere of Martin McDonagh's hilarious whodunit A Skull in Connemara, one of a the Leenane trilogy of plays written by the contemporary Irish playwright. McDonagh's dark humor features the colloquial idioms of the west of Ireland, its rugged landscape, and its even more rugged people. McDonagh wrote one of PICT's most popular shows, The Lieutenant of Inishmore. His short film Six Shooter won an Academy Award in 2006, and he was nominated for an Oscar for best original screenplay for In Bruges, a feature-length film in which two hitmen hide in the Flemish city of Bruges after a problematic job.

Lily Rabe & Hamish Linklater Join Alan Rickman in SEMINAR

Producers Jeffrey Finn, Jill Furman and Smuggler Films announced today that Tony Award nominee and two-time Drama Desk Award nominee Lily Rabe (The Merchant of Venice, Steel Magnolias, this summer's lauded A Doll's House at Williamstown) and Obie Award winner and Drama Desk nominee Hamish Linklater (The School for Lies, Twelfth Night, 'The New Adventures of Old Christine') have joined two-time Tony Award nominee, Emmy Award and Golden Globe winner Alan Rickman (Private Lives, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, the Harry Potter franchise) in the World Premiere of SEMINAR, a new play by Pulitzer Prize finalist and Peabody Award winner Theresa Rebeck (Mauritius, The Understudy, Omnium Gatherum, The Family of Mann, Spike Heels, NBC's upcoming 'Smash').

2011 Drama Desk Nominations Announced - 12 for THE BOOK OF MORMON, 10 for ANYTHING GOES

The 56th Annual Drama Desk Awards, hosted by Harvey Fierstein, will be held Monday, May 23, at 9:00 PM at the Hammerstein Ballroom in Manhattan Center, 8th Avenue and 34th Street. This year, for the first time, a 90-minute Highlights Special of the Drama Desk Awards Ceremony will be televised nationally on OVATION, the national cable network dedicated to presenting creative arts programming to national TV audiences. The ceremony will be given two primetime broadcasts plus four other airings between June 4 and June 19, 2011.

This morning, Norbert Leo Butz and Kathleen Chalfant announced the nominations for The 77th Annual Drama League Awards in the categories of Distinguished Production of Play, Distinguished Production of a Musical, Distinguished Revival of a Play, Distinguished Revival of a Musical and the Distinguished Performance Award. Both actors are previous winners of The Drama League's Distinguished Performance Award. Abbey Theatre to Bring Rickman in JOHN GABRIEL BORKMAN to NYC in '11

As previously reported on BroadwayWorld, Ireland's Abbey Theatre will present Ibsen's JOHN GABRIEL BORKMAN from October 6 to November 20 in a production starring Alan Rickman, Fiona Shaw, and Lindsay Duncan. The Theatre's official website has now announced that the production will be brought to New York in January 2011. A New York venue has yet to be announced.

Box Office Opens March 1st For RED At The Golden Theater

The box office at the Golden Theatre (252 West 45th Street) opens Monday, March 1 for RED, the critically acclaimed Donmar Warehouse production of a new American play by John Logan about the master of twentieth century abstract impressionism, Mark Rothko. RED opens on Broadway on Thursday, April 1 for a limited 15-week engagement. Previews begin on Thursday, March 11.
