The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts today announced it will produce the world premiere original musical production of Little Dancer featuring book and lyrics by Tony Award winner Lynn Ahrens, music by Tony Award winner Stephen Flaherty, and direction and choreography by five-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman. The musical will begin performances in the Kennedy Center Eisenhower Theater in October 2014. Casting and additional details about Little Dancer will be announced at a later date.

KCACTF's 45th Annual Festival Kicks Off in D.C. Today

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts previously announced national awardees for outstanding work from the regional festivals that were held January 8 through March 3, 2013. Individual awardees and a representative from each of the outstanding productions will travel to the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. for an expenses-paid trip to participate in the 45th annual Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF), today, April 15-20, 2013.

Tonight, April 12, 2013, The New York Pops continues its 30th season with an evening celebrating the 65th birthday of Stephen Schwartz and the 10th anniversary of his hit musical Wicked with The Wizard and I: The Musical Journey of Stephen Schwartz. Music Director and Conductor Steven Reineke will lead the orchestra as they perform highlights from some of the composer-lyricist's most beloved works. The concert features Tony Award nominee Jeremy Jordan (Newsies), Tony Award nominee Norm Lewis (The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess), Drama Desk Award nominee Julia Murney (The Wild Party), Tony Award nominee Jennifer Laura Thompson (Urinetown), and Judith Clurman's Essential Voices USA.

Kennedy Images Lost on 9/11 Displayed at the Newseum Today

Today, April 12, the Newseum will open a new exhibit, 'Creating Camelot: The Kennedy Photography of Jacques Lowe,' as part of its year-long exploration of the life, legacy and death of America's 35th president. The exhibit features intimate, behind-the-scenes images of John F. Kennedy, his wife, Jacqueline, and their children, Caroline and John, taken by Kennedy's personal photographer.

Viktor Mitic to Make U.S. Debut with Latest Installation INCIDENT in D.C.

Canadian visual artist Viktor Mitic has been invited to Washington, DC for a showing of his recent work of art titled 'Incident'. This timely and important art installation for 'The Newtown Project: Art Targets Guns' at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, will be a highlight at the Exhibit's opening weekend, April 5th and 6th. The installation will then move to George Mason University's main campus outside of Washington in Fairfax County, Virginia, where it will be displayed near the George Mason School of Art Building, April 8th through the10th. Mr. Mitic's latest large scale installation piece is a bullet-riddled yellow school bus, which he turned into a work of aesthetic and thought-provoking art by using over 6,000 bullets fired from various assault rifles, shot-guns and semi-automatic weapons. 'Incident' was previously displayed in Toronto, Canada in 2012 and was dedicated to victims of gun violence.

Virgin America Launches Service from Newark to Los Angeles and San Francisco

Virgin America today celebrates the launch of its new service to Newark, New Jersey the 20th destination in the carrier's growing network. At a time when most U.S. carriers have been consolidating, Virgin America is bringing its blend of upscale service and competitive fares to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) with three daily conveniently timed nonstop flights from both Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO). Virgin America's Newark service will support local jobs, stimulate travel and spur the increased competition that drives lower fares and better service. Prior to entering the EWR market one of the nation's top business travel markets the San Francisco-EWR route was served only by a single airline and the Los Angeles-Newark route was served by no low-fare carriers. Since Virgin America's launch of EWR sales, fares on the routes have dropped by as much as 40 percent.

Washington National Opera Welcomes Diana Damrau Tonight

Washington National Opera presents German soprano Diana Damrau in recital as part of its Celebrity Concert Series tonight, April 8 at 8 p.m. in the Kennedy Center Eisenhower Theater. Accompanied by harpist Xavier de Maistre, Damrau will perform selections from Schubert, R. Strauss, Hahn, Chausson, Duparc, and more. Both artists make their WNO debuts with this performance.
