Canadian visual artist Viktor Mitic has been invited to Washington, DC for a showing of his recent work of art titled 'Incident'. This timely and important art installation for 'The Newtown Project: Art Targets Guns' at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, will be a highlight at the Exhibit's opening weekend, April 5th and 6th. The installation will then move to George Mason University's main campus outside of Washington in Fairfax County, Virginia, where it will be displayed near the George Mason School of Art Building, April 8th through the10th. Mr. Mitic's latest large scale installation piece is a bullet-riddled yellow school bus, which he turned into a work of aesthetic and thought-provoking art by using over 6,000 bullets fired from various assault rifles, shot-guns and semi-automatic weapons. 'Incident' was previously displayed in Toronto, Canada in 2012 and was dedicated to victims of gun violence.
JetBlue Airways (JBLU), Boston's largest airline with more flights than any other carrier at Logan International Airport (BOS), today announces its next 'Wings For Autism' event. For the past three years, the airline's Boston crewmembers have volunteered their time to introduce the possibility of travel to children with autism spectrum disorders. Autism now affects one in 88 children. Taking a family vacation with a child with autism can be stressful and for many families it is often an impossible dream. Anxiety, long lines, loud noises and unfamiliarity all come into play when navigating through the airport. 'Wings For Autism' not only practices the boarding process, the program provides families with the time, resources and compassion for their children to become more comfortable with this new experience. JetBlue works with The Charles River Center, to train crewmembers to meet both the anticipated as well as unexpected needs of families traveling with a child with special needs.

Louis Armstrong House Museum is celebrating Jazz Appreciation month in style this April. 85 years ago, Louis Armstrong recorded one of his all-time masterpieces, 'West End Blues,' one of the most important records in jazz history. For Jazz Appreciation Month, the Museum's historic house tours will feature an ultra rare recording of Louis Armstrong performing 'West End Blues' live at Freedomland in 1961. This performance was recently donated to the Museum's Archives by the son of Freedomland sound engineer Peter Denis. Previously unissued and not in any discographies, it will be featured only during Jazz Appreciation Month! This recording compliments the Museum's current exhibit, Louis Armstrong at Freedomland that closes April 30, 2012.
The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts today announced national awardees for outstanding work from the regional festivals that were held January 8 through March 3, 2013. Individual awardees and a representative from each of the outstanding productions will travel to the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. for an expenses-paid trip to participate in the 45th annual Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF), April 15-20, 2013.
Boston Ballet Artistic Director Mikko Nissinen today announced the programming for an exciting 2013-2014 season. The Company will commence its 50 year celebration this July with a tour to London, England where they will perform at the London Coliseum. Acclaimed violinist Itzhak Perlman will take center stage as violinist and the podium as guest conductor to lead the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in a program including 'Summer' and 'Winter' from Vivaldi's The Four Seasons and Mahler's Symphony No. 1, 'Titan.' The performances will take place April 25 and 27, at 8:00 p.m., and April 28, 2013, at 3:00 p.m., in Atlanta Symphony Hall at the Woodruff Arts Center.
The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts today announced Finn Wittrock as The Actor, Sarah Wayne Callies as The Actress, and Shuler Hensley as The Critic in the Kennedy Center production of The Guardsman in the Eisenhower Theater May 25 to June 23, 2013. Based on the 1910 comedy by Hungarian playwright Ferenc Molnar, The Guardsman features a new literal translation by Richard Nelson and is directed by Gregory Mosher. The press opening will take place on Thursday, May 30 at 7:30 p.m.
On April 12, the Newseum will open a new exhibit, 'Creating Camelot: The Kennedy Photography of Jacques Lowe,' as part of its year-long exploration of the life, legacy and death of America's 35th president. The exhibit features intimate, behind-the-scenes images of John F. Kennedy, his wife, Jacqueline, and their children, Caroline and John, taken by Kennedy's personal photographer.
