Just a few weeks ago I was dodging a falling chandelier at the Orpheum's staging of PHANTOM OF THE OPERA; at the 'Phantom Event' held prior to the play, I was reminded of all the physical (as well as fiscal) requirements for properly staging this production. I kept thinking, 'How many small, financially strapped towns would breathe a sigh of relief if the proceeds from such a production were to come their way?' Well, that's one extreme of theatre. Tonight I was exposed to the opposite; Circuit Playhouse's production of Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones' allegorical THE FANTASTICKS reminded me of Thornton Wilder's minimalism in the staging of OUR TOWN. If musicals like PHANTOM and LES MISERABLES are the 'central air' of theatre, THE FANTASTICKS is rather like a quaint little oscillating fan. Yet, its breeze can be refreshing.

The book, comprised of essays, stories and poems from people living with Alzheimer's or another dementia, caregivers and affected friends and family members, will help raise awareness of the Alzheimer's epidemic and comfort those impacted by the disease. Adult Swim announced today the season two pickup of Newsreaders, an absurd take on the television newsmagazine, from the creative team behind the two-time Emmy(R)-winning series Childrens Hospital. Production on the new season begins in Los Angeles, CA in January 2014.

On Jan. 1, Ovation, the only cable television network exclusively devoted to the arts, was officially dropped from Time Warner Cable's (TWC) lineup. Just before being dropped, Ovation delivered TWC a petition signed by over 25,000 Americans. The petition, which was hosted online at the website KeepOvation.com expresses dismay at TWC's intention to drop the network and urges the cable company to keep Ovation in its lineup.
