Kronos Quartet Announces Year Three Of FIFTY FOR THE FUTURE

Kronos Quartet/Kronos Performing Arts Association is proud to announce the third group of composers for Fifty for the Future: The Kronos Learning Repertoire. Launched in 2015, Fifty for the Future is an exciting partnership with Carnegie Hall and others to create 50 new works - by 25 women and 25 men - expressly for the training of students and emerging professionals.

ODC/Dance, San Francisco's world class contemporary dance company, presents its crowd-pleasing annual summer event, Summer Sampler, July 21-23, 2016. The three-night series gives audiences a chance to experience the dynamic ODC dancers up close in the company's intimate Mission District theater on the ODC Campus. This year's Summer Sampler features works by Founder and Artistic Director Brenda Way and Co-Artistic Director KT Nelson. The program includes Brenda Way's 2010 work, Waving Not Drowning (A Guide to Elegance); KT Nelson's Going Solo, which premiered earlier this year, and an additional work by Nelson TBA.

Santa Cruz, Calif. -- Cid Pearlman Performance and Felix Kulpa Gallery have announced the world premiere of ECONOMIES OF EFFORT: 3, the third and final work in a triptych of performance installations on the theme of 'economy.' ECONOMIES OF EFFORT: 3 opens at the Felix Kulpa Gallery in Santa Cruz, Today, March 17, and runs two weekends through March 27. It continues at the Joe Goode Annex in San Francisco, Friday to Saturday, April 8 - 9.

Roulette presents Interpretations featuring selections from John King's Free Palestine, with A Secret Quartet (Cornelius Dufallo, Jennifer Choi, violins; Lev Zhurbin, viola; Yves Dharamraj, cello). Using materials derived from the Arabic systems of pitch and rhythm, maqam'at and iqa'at, each particular composition uses indeterminacy and improvisation to organize sound and time, thereby providing energetic and visceral motifs encompassing the full range of expression possible from a string quartet.

Guerilla Opera announces two new operas in their seventh season: an original production of Andy Vores's No Exit from September 19-22, 2013, adapted from the play by Jean-Paul Sartre, with stage direction by Nathan Troup; and the world premiere of Gallo in May 2014, with music and libretto by Ken Ueno and stage direction by Sarah Meyers. Both operas will feature scenic design by Julia Noulin-Merat. All performances are in The Zack Box Theater at The Boston Conservatory, 8 The Fenway, Boston, MA. Choreographed by Cid Pearlman with an original score composed and performed by Joan Jeanrenaud, text by poet Denise Leto, and musical direction by Maya Barsacq, 'Your Body Is Not a Shark' uses physical limitation and difference as a point of departure for examining the creative process. It is an inquiry into the subtlety of form - poetic, choreographic, musical - and into the ways in which form's constraints inspire. In the end 'Shark' is a paean to the power of art and to the artist within each of us.
