Broadway Loves Shriners Hospitals for Children Benefit Concert is set for tonight, December 3, at the Grand Lodge Masonic Hall located at 23rd Street and 6th Avenue. Hosted by award-winning Broadway leading lady Donna Kane (Les Miserables, Meet Me In St. Louis) with musical supervision by Mark Hartman (Avenue Q, Sondheim on Sondheim) and Choreography by Becky Timms (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Cats), the concert will include performances of popular show tunes and holiday classics by past and present Broadway stars.

Phish front man Trey Anastasio rocked the legendary Birdland in NYC with an impromptu performance on Monday night. McGrath, Beth Williams), Rich Entertainment Group (Bob and Mindy Rich), Barbara Whitman, Latitude Link, Dede Harris, Sharon Karmazin, and Howard and Janet Kagan just announced that the La Jolla Playhouse production of the new American musical HANDS ON A HARDBODY will bow on Broadway in the 2012-2013 season. La Jolla Playhouse's Hands on a Hardbody will run through June 17, 2012 in the Mandell Weiss Theatre. The world-premiere, commissioned musical has a book by Pulitzer Prize winner Doug Wright (I Am My Own Wife, Creditors), lyrics by Amanda Green (High Fidelity), music by Trey Anastasio (lead singer of the popular band Phish) and Amanda Green, with direction by Neil Pepe (Speed-the-Plow) and musical staging by Benjamin Millepied (BLACK SWAN).

New York had just become the sixth state in the nation to legalize gay marriage.

Glenn Poppleton (Producer) announced that Lucky Guy, a new musical comedy, will end its limited engagement following the evening performance on Sunday, May 29, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. The show, which began previews at the Little Shubert Theatre (422 West 42nd Street, between 9th & Dyer Avenues) on April 29 and opened on Thursday, May 19, will have played 23 preview performance and 14 regular performances. The production had been announced to run through July 24.

Unless the names 'Noel' and 'Coward' are involved, I tend to be a bit wary about musicals with the book, music, lyrics and direction all by the same person, but Willard Beckham makes a very entertaining go of it with his campy, country/western musical comedy, Lucky Guy.
