It's a gift that Matthew Gardiner is directing Harvey Fierstein and Jerry Herman's award-winning musical as Signature Theatre's season finale.

Signature Theatre presents THE FIX, directed by Signature Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer (Broadway's Gigi, Follies, Million Dollar Quartet). Featuring a book by John Dempsey and music by Dana P. Rowe (the creators of Brother Russia and The Witches of Eastwick), the show quickly became a favorite among Signature's artistic team during its U.S. premiere at the Theatre in 1998, cementing a longstanding relationship with Dempsey and Rowe. Running in the MAX Theatre now through September 20, the inside-politics musical satire is the first production of Signature Theatre's 2015/2016 season. Adventure Theatre MTC (ATMTC) opens 2014 with Miss Nelson is Missing, its third production of its 62nd Professional Season. Based on one of the most memorable books its time by Harry Allard and James Marshall, Miss Nelson is Missing is written by nationally-renowned, local playwright, Joan Cushing, who is the most produced playwright in children's theatre according to TYA Today Magazine. This children's favorite directed byJennifer Nelson (2011's Mirandy and Brother Wind and former Producing Artistic Director of the African Continuum Theatre) and music directed by Helen Hayes Award Recipient and 8-time nominee, George Fulginiti-Shakar, will run January 17- March 9, 2014. Miss Nelson is Missing stars Helen Hayes Award Nominee Jessica Lauren Ball (Olney's Cinderella, Toby's Legally Blonde) as Miss Nelson, the well-natured and long-suffering teacher of the disobedient Room 207, who is suddenly replaced by the petrifying substitute, Miss Viola Swamp. Be prepared for something very different from the typical musicals in Olney's historic 75th year history.

On March 2, 2013, Olney Theatre Center will host the Diamond Gala, a black-tie fundraising event celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Olney Theatre Center. The event will include a cocktail hour, a seated dinner, live musical performances from Olney favorites George Dvorsky (Annie, The Sound of Music), Jessica Lauren Ball (1776, Grease, The Sound of Music, Cinderella), Donna Migliaccio (The Sound of Music, Cinderella), Caitlin Deerin (Annie), Parker Drown (Grease, Cinderella, Spring Awakening), MaryLee Adams (Spring Awakening) and Bobby Smith (Annie, The Sound of Music, Little Shop of Horrors), as well as silent and live auctions. Funds raised from the event will support Olney's artistic and educational programming which reaches over 100,000 audience members a year in Maryland and nationwide.

If you are in the mood for some high energy fluff, Toby's Dinner Theatre has just the thing - Legally Blonde, The Musical. Based on the 2001 movie, Legally Blonde follows the story of Elle Woods, a seemingly vacuous sorority girl. After being dumped by her Harvard Law bound boyfriend, Elle is determined to win him back. So, she packs up her Pradas and her pooch and heads to the Ivy League school.

A show that gets liberal audiences to cheer for someone who at first blush would seem like a future Ann Romney is doing something pretty canny.

Last night before a crowd of 200 theatre makers and theatre lovers, theatreWashington announced the nominees for the 28th Helen Hayes Awards. The National Theatre's Helen Hayes Gallery set the scene for the announcement of nominees in 26 categories for artistic excellence and the announcement of the recipient of the 2012 John Aniello Award for Outstanding Emerging Theatre Company.
