Goodspeed Musicals will proudly honor five time Tony Award-winner, Broadway legend William Ivey Long at a Gala evening on Saturday, May 2, 2009 when he will receive The Goodspeed Award for Outstanding Contribution to Musical Theatre in recognition of his extraordinary career. Previous award recipients include Julie Andrews, Ira Gershwin, Jerry Herman, Stephen Schwartz, Tommy Tune, Susan Stroman and Gerald Schoenfeld. Proceeds from the Gala will support Goodspeed Musicals? Education Programs.
Frank Torren Returns To Don't Tell Mama's 5/24, 5/27 With 'First Times'

After sold out shows last year, veteran actor/singer Frank Torren returns to Don't Tell Mama for two special encore shows on Sunday, May 24 at 3:00 and Wednesday, May 27 at 7:00 with his special must see show 'First Times.' Again, Back Stage Bistro winner Rick Unterberg is arranger/musical director for both shows.

At a black-tie Gala Benefit on Monday night at the Embassy of Italy, Signature Theatre feted Stephen Sondheim, the greatest living composer/lyricist of American musical theatre, with both music and a new award established in the composer's name. The theatre company, nationally known for its Sondheim productions, inaugurated the ?Sondheim Award' which will be presented annually to individuals for their career contributions in interpreting, supporting, and collaborating on Mr. Sondheim's musical works.

The marquees of Broadway theatres in New York will be dimmed in her memory on Tuesday, April 28th, at exactly 8:00pm for one minute.

The performers are a who's who of the best of Key West. David Black is comfortable moving between musical theater, comedy and drama, as reflected in his many appearances on Key West stages. This season he appeared at the Waterfront in the highly praised 'Doubt' as well as 'Reefer Madness' and 'The Red Head Dilemma.' Laurie Breakwell appeared this season in the Key West Pops concert of 'A Little Night Music' and 'The Wild Women of Planet Wongo' at the Red Barn. Last season she appeared in the Barn's 'Bark!' as well as the Pops' 'The Pajama Game.'

Stage and Screen star Beatrice (Bea) Arthur passed away yesterday, Saturday, April 25 at age 86. Clark Johnsen of the Mary Poppins Tour and his fellow castmates Nick Sanchez and Justin Keyes, performed a wonderful vocal tribute to the late Arthur that we are happy to share with you here on BWW TV.
