Stages Theatre Company opens TWELVE DANCING PRINCESSES tonight. A brand new musical, produced in collaboration with Escalate Dance, continuing the performance partnership that has brought you Owl Moon and The Mitten in the past two seasons. Twelve sisters, all princesses, share a bedroom in which they are locked each night. Each morning, their shoes are found to have been worn through, as if the young ladies had danced all night long. A contest is begun, to discover what is going on. Whoever discovers the secret of the twelve dancing princesses will be the winner and accorded power and riches by the king.

Stages Theatre Company (STC) launches its 2012-13 season with the world premiere of "Duck for President" (a New York Times #1 bestseller) by Doreen Cronin, opening Sept. 21 at the Hopkins Center for the Arts. "Duck for President" directed by Marilee Mahler is a barnyard romp featuring Charles, the irresistibly funny duck, who decides to run for president. Adding an animal twist to this American tradition, Playwright Jennifer Kirkeby and Composer Shirley Mier combine to create an entertaining musical production that is full of recounts and sticky ballots. "There is humor, heart, laughs, great songs, a fantastic cast and crew, secret service wolves, and of course the show will help inform the audience who they should vote for during the next presidential election…DUCK!" says Kirkeby.

Barksdale Theatre and Theatre IV announce that the two nonprofit theaters will formally merge effective July 1, 2012 under a new name - Virginia Repertory Theatre (Virginia Rep). With a budget exceeding $5 million, four distinct venues, and an annual audience over 550,000, Virginia Rep will become the largest professional theater and one of the largest performing arts organizations in Central Virginia along with the Richmond Ballet, Richmond Symphony, and the Virginia Opera. Barksdale and Theatre IV celebrated the announcement and the unveiling of the new Virginia Rep sign today, May 20, at the November Theatre (formerly the Empire Theatre) at 114 West Broad Street at 4:00 p.m. after the closing of Seussical, thelast mainstage children's production under the Theatre IV name. Virginia Rep will transition into the new organization between now and July 1.
Orlando Repertory Theatre (The REP), in partnership with UCF, has announced its 10th Birthday Season. The REP is Orlando's only professional theatre for families and young audiences and has performed shows such as PINKALICIOUS: The Musical, Lyle the Crocodile, and A Nutty Nutcracker Christmas.
