This December, New Conservatory Theatre Center delivers the ultimate holiday present with the 5th anniversary of its award-winning production of Avenue Q.
As a young child, one of my favorite things to do was sit in front of the television, probably with a bowl of sugary cereal, and see what my friends who lived on Sesame Street were learning (and teaching me) that day. I consider the lessons I learned in my living room as the foundation that my future education was built upon. But what happens when characters like that grow up? Do they still rely upon each other for support and to help work out how to navigate the growing complexity of life? Do they still have helpful lessons to share? And would their style (and humor) grow up with them as well? It is this concept that grounds Robert Lopez, Jeff Marx, and Jeff Whitty's Tony Award winning musical, AVENUE Q, which opens the 9th season at West Hartford's Playhouse on Park.

Southgate Community Players are thrilled to announce their extremely talented cast of 'Avenue Q.' The laugh-out-loud musical tells the timeless story of a recent college grad named Princeton, who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q.

"What Do You Do With a B.A. in English?" is the strikingly articulate song that follows the opening number of AVENUE Q, which opened last night at Amelia Community Theatre. I uncomfortably shifted in my seat, as my B.A. is…also in English (insert face-plant emoji). AVENUE Q, winner of three Tony Awards (including Best Musical), is a blunt, provocative, and at times hilarious, coming-of-age tale of how much it sucks to grow up and be an adult, told through the lens of jaded and satirical puppets and humans, who live in what is described as an "Outer-outer borough of New York City). Basically, it's X-rated Sesame Street. Music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, with book by Jeff Whitty, this musical has received favorable acclaim nationally and internationally alike.
Now, Lewis and his team - which includes choreographers Ashley Danielle and Tosha Pendergrast - give the show their own unique spin, opening tonight at Nashville's Z. Alexander Looby Theatre, featuring a fresh-faced young cast bringing the show to life. Two of those cast members - Emily Urbanski and Miracle Ham - responded to our queries, telling us how they found their way to theatrical careers and suggesting why you should be certain to see their show in this edition of Friday 5 (+1)...
